so actually how much shaft play is there?
if you hold it to where the inlet/outlet are horizontal, and push downward on the wheel and try to spin it.... does the wheel hit the housing?

there is suppose to be some shaft play in the turbo.... about .040" but when the oil is added it takes up the slop.... so if it isnt hitting the housing, and you dont see any oil residue on the compressor inlet, i'd say run it.... ----, if it is bad, it' will only take you about 20 minutes to take it off. but waiting for it to come back would suck....

no turbo is going to have "no shaft play"! FYI

hell yea it hits the housing. trust me if i put this on my car and started it the wheels would just get fucked up along with whatever else. u know what else. even tho i'm getting new ones the oil and coolant lines are on it but instead of putting it in a box that it would actually fit in he bent all the hoses and there kinked but i was getting new ones anyway. some thing else i noticed was the clamp that holds the compressor and exhaust housing on was very loose. like some one took it apart. i took it off and removed the compressor. i dont know exactly what it is but the peice behind the turbine wheel was like moving then i tried 2 hold it and spin the wheel and the shaft play stopped. so its that one peice thats messing it all up. i'm just gonna get it rebuilt. but he's lucky i'm not putting any of this together till early summer. that still wasnt right tho sellin me broke ----. but thanks guys

I got one from a chrysler with the funnie flang that has almost NO SHAFT PLAY! I have had turbos rebuilt with more play. The center clamp is fucked (v-band) I will sell you it and you can use your clamp if this is the turbo you need. PM me

see if the fins are bent/broken or if the housing is scratched. if it's like you say then the end to end play will be like that also, if there's no end to end play then it sounds about normal.
