Evolution of a Yamaha Banshee motor (56K go find Dr. Boost)

No this isn't my turbo Banshee motor. Its actually my buddy's motor that he was building. I was originally building the turbo kit for his spare banshee but he sold it to me to pay for this one.

Here's what it originally looked like:

After a couple bucks its a aggesssive ported 400cc powervalve cheetah motor with 35mm Keihin carbs:

And to put the power down its got a lockout clutch with a smoked cover. Can't slip a clutch that doesn't use plates 8)

The fame also just got powdercoated, new Gibson +2 +1 A-arms and dual rate Works shocks

lets see, he owns you with 49/51 weight distribution, he can rev too 9000 and not blow up, he can out handle most cars on this site with stock suspension ;), its a 2 door, its a 5spd and those rear ends are tough

Re: Evolution of a Yamaha Banshee motor (56K go find Dr. Boost)

We build Drag RD350s that are just the air cooled version of the shee.
And we use lock up clutches. In fact I think we where the first to start the craze with the see thru covers back in 98.
The lock was developed and Piorned by MRE later copied by one and all.
The lockup does use clutch plates. It just locks em so they cant slip.

He would need a 6ft long swinger on that babby. And once it gets going it only going to want to go straight ;D

The swingarm is staying stock for now along with the rear shock. The most it would get extended it probably +2 since we still do some trail riding

The lockup is nice becuase you don't need to run the heavy duty springs and when we ride on the pavement the clutch wouldn't be able to hold the power. In my old shee I had massive clutch springs in it that would kill your ------- hand. Lockouts are definitely the way to go

lol, yeah those carbs are way too small ::) They're 35mm Keihins, not sure what jets yet until its strapped to the dyno. And yeah it has powervalves. You can see them hanging off the tops of the heads. look at the before and after of the heads you'll see them

chinoy 06-21-2005 10:51 AM

Re: Evolution of a Yamaha Banshee motor (56K go find Dr. Boost)

If it was my motor Id have gone with 38mm lectrons.
THe RD400 Drag Boys run 40mm lectrons on their stroker 424 motors.

chinoy 06-22-2005 12:09 PM

Re: Evolution of a Yamaha Banshee motor (56K go find Dr. Boost)

Real question is do you have the 10,000$ to spare to put together something like that.

Shifting is a bitch on the yamaha twins. Including the shees

WHat is he going to do to address the shifting issue.
