Ethanol?

Here in beautiful central IL they love to use corn for everything, including turning it into ethanol and puting it in our gas. A bunch of local stations sell 91 octane with 10% ethanol for the same price as 87, so I have been using it for a while now, and it doesnt seem to affect the car in any way. My question is, does anyone think it will have an effect on a boosted car vs. "regular" 91 or 93?

I believe every gas station is using "10%" ethanol in all brands of fuel.
At least here in Colorado every station I've gone to is.

here in kansas city we only have few places that sell ethanol contained gas....my buddy uses it in his GSR and he says his motor respond's to it well and much better than regular gas but i dont know about FI motors...i think it wouldnt hurt it at all since there are factory boosted cars out there it doesnt hurt.

ethanol is top fuel isn't it?

Re:Ethanol?

Top fuel runs nitromethane. Other classes use methanol. Does anyone know what it would take to run methanol on a Honda (Besides bigger injectors and an afc or something)?

Re:Ethanol?

Ethanol is in gas, all gas. It's mandated, up to 10% in 91 or higher. Ethanol boosts octane. Just like octane boosts from Canadian Tire or Pep boys. North American gas is ---- by nature that is why it so cheap. We need the alcohol to make are really shitty gas only shitty.

SO, all gas from the pump has alcohol, your car will run with it. Higher octane gas is better with boost or a tuned engine, it elimantes some of the predetonation that occurs with higher compression.

Now, if your car is a d series civic with no mods, higher octane gas will do nothing for you. B or H series engine it is recommended by Honda that you run this. If you run boost you better run 94 octane just for insurance and better combustion.

If you wanted to run pure ethanol in your car, I would recommend rebuilding your engine for massive boost but without any forced induction. Ford had a prototype 'stang running pure alcohol, it ran more than 400hp at the wheels N/A with the same displacement as their stock 4.6L

But where are you going to fill up?

I don't remember where but you can buy this in its pure concentrated liquid in bottles. I believe its meant for some type of gas powered RC car.

rc cars run on a nitromethane mix called glow fuel
