Which engine to pick
Its been a long time since i've posted on this site, and i would like to say im glad to be back, i homemade turbo'd my old 99 civic si a few years ago and after it was stolen and striped i bought a 98 Eclipse GSX which im now selling because its too damn sluggish. So anyways, im buying a 92-95 Civic HB and i need to know the best engine to put in it, im considering the b16b, b16c or h22a, the h22a is significantly cheaper than the others and i dont really know why, also im going to be turbo charging the motor but i want to keep the internals stock, im not confident enough to start messing with hondas perfection. your thoughts? and these arent the only engine, anything you can suggest?

Re: Which engine to pick
whatever engine will kill you fastest preferably.
Why do people come here and ask opinions on things that have been asked 3,511,843.266 times? I'd go with b18. |

Re: Which engine to pick
is the b161b not turbo friendly or something, why is the b18 perferred, just because of the higher displacement?

Re: Which engine to pick
d15 ftw
|
Re: Which engine to pick
id try the d15b16a
|
Re: Which engine to pick
people don't run b16b's because they sell for as much as most of the 12 second cars on this website have invested in them.

Re: Which engine to pick
yeah, i would like to build up the internals, but i worry about messing it up, after i turbo'd my si, it ran like crap, i remember black smoke coming out of the back and i never did find out what it was, i thought the oil return line was clogged or something, oh well, its gone. Me and my friend tried to rebuild his eclipse motor and it got all f-up, so i kind dont want to try that, just the engine swap for now, those type r's are alot of money i guess, thanks for your input

they'd love you over at honda-tech

Re: Which engine to pick
Gas turbine engine.
I'd go with the b18b turboed. the black smoke was probably unburnt fuel. Were you tuned? It was probably running pig rich. If you want to rebuild it get a shop manual and follow it. If you rebuild it and follow the steps in the manual you should have no problem. |
Re: Which engine to pick
the center section of the turbo wasnt straight down, and maybe the turbo was getting too much oil, i never figured it out before it was stolen, i bought a safc and 450cc dsm injectors but i never got to install them.

You bought an SAFC but never installed it.... that makes me assume that you didn't have any kind of engine management.

Re: Which engine to pick
Vortech 12:1 FMU
|
Re: Which engine to pick
the FMU wasent bad, but everyone urged me to try something else, this time around i think im going either hondata or greddy e-manage, i have to sell my eclipse first, AWD is really awesome when your drag racing, but its just not very fun to drive around town, it has so much lag because its so heavy and it takes too much to get those 4 wheels moving. Check it on on Autotrader.com 21701 is my zip code, its the silver one if anyone wants it $13000

Re: Which engine to pick
no one wants to buy your shitty car. So wait, you bought a civic and turboed it. it didn't run right so you gave up on it. then you bought a gsx. couldn't make it fast so you sold it cause its "sluggish". now your asking a dumbass question that has been answered a million times.
do us all a favor and http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r...manMD/gtfo.jpg |
