I've heard they're good if you drive like you're supposed to, and don't shank the ---- out of the shifter everytime you shift. I'd rock one.

No they work great.Used quite a few and I cant really tell any difference between good brands and cheap. The ones that have the little bearing are nice to get.

Re: ebay short shifters

^ when you say you have used quite a few, this means on different cars right? cuz if not then they obviously arent THAT good.

Re: ebay short shifters

Yes I mean on all of the Hondas I have owned I always start with a urethane shift stabilizer kit and a short throw shifter. Makes a world of difference.Never have I seen one break but I dont think I have ever tried like a $3.99 one as some I see I would avoid.Just get one of the cheaper brands you have heard of like your OBX type companies etc they are so cheap whats a whole $25.

Re: ebay short shifters

i already bought one for like 15 and it has a little bearing. i mostly want it cause it has the little double bend and should make it easyer to reach. thing i hate aboiut my 96 civic, when the pedals feel right, im too far from the streering wheel it seems, and like the shifter is just a little out of reach

Re: ebay short shifters

Should work.Worst case it breaks in half and you have a super short shifter :D For $15 it is worth a try.Do you have a urethane bushing set for the shifter? If not order a Prothane one asap.---- is majic.

my buddy broke two of em on his integra, I don't know if they are the same brand as that one but he beat the utter ---- out of that car. We dragged a christmas tree with it tonight and than ran it over when we were done, good times

Re: ebay short shifters

installed it, whenever i install somthing theres the easy way, and my way.. couldnt get any muffler bolts undone so i just forced ---- out the way, got it out, smoked 3 times, put it back in, it hits my exhaust. also the gay spacers didnt stop me from over-tightening it so it could bareley shift. losen it up, put a extra nut ontop of the 1st one so maybe it wouldnt fall off, then jammed a short piece of 2x4 between the pipe and heat shield now i think its ok, didnt seem to rub. damn it shift short, like half as much throw.

Re: ebay short shifters

Yup makes a big difference. That and I have found the biggest change especially on a old EF is to put the urethane in it firms it up so much that any other car I get in feels like sloppy thirds.

They only break if you shift like a ------- retard. I have never had a problem with any of my short throws from Eghey.

Re: ebay short shifters

replacing the bitch pin will also help a ton with cleaning up a sloppy old shifter.

If it is truelly "billet aluminum" like it says, then it should last.

Re: ebay short shifters

I guess the one i bought was exceptionally shitty or else it had a defect. I put it in on sunday and the threads broke off in the knob the next morning backing out of my driveway. I JB welded the fucker back on and it last about another 2 months. I was driving back into town from a freinds house and ripped on it from a stop light, slammed third and the shifter broke off at the pivot and my fist hit the climate control. IMO those billet alminum shifters aren't worth ----. i had to drill a hold down the center of it so i could stick a metal dowl pin in there to get my car home... drilled like butter. They are ----.

Re: ebay short shifters

i got a short shifter for 21$ and a type R knob. the thing is to long on the bottom and hits my exhaust so it rattles and makes my car sound like a pos. im taking it off and installing my oem shifter. ill sell it for $15 shipped if anyone wants it without the knob.

Re: ebay short shifters

I have used them no problems I just dont like them in general. Stock is fine with me

B16CRXT 01-29-2006 07:12 PM

Re: ebay short shifters

coupl eyears ago I had a "type R" short shifter in my old crx. It broke at the threads, but left like 2 threads on, so it was even shorter. I loved it. and back then, I drove a stock dx crx so I was slamming through gears like a bitch. I shift pretty normal now. I'm gonna buy a new short shifter soon. RIght now I have a dual bend shifter, but I like the look of a shorter one more. Just installed ES shifter stabilizer bushings. Made a world of difference. :y
