Sounds unwieldy and cumbersome to me. Maybe I know what I'm talking about.

If you are a flatlander, I cannot repeat enough, get the liter bike.

The main thing, considering these model years, is the sort of thrashyness of the earlier gsxr motor compared with the always accomodating (but not so exhilarating) honda motors. If you go with the GSXR your best bet would be an '03 as to this is the year they made the switch to fuel injection, so you don't get the tempermental powerspikes high in the rev-range, in effect an easier yet still enthralling ride. The honda is always a good bet, especially for a learner bike, the question is how many years, or how well rather, have you ridden a bike? I've had a motorcycle since I was 8 and almost a decade later I still get butterflies everytime I get on it in a corner. I'm partial to the GSXR, and plan on getting either an 03 600 or the 750. The torque on the 750 is amazing, it is the smoothest most confidence inspiring ride for less than 3g's. As for the incumbancy on liter bikes, my buddy has a 2007 Yamaha R1 that dances around anything on the road with a flick of the wrist, there is no snap steer like old liter bikes. The chassis design in new liter bikes is really amazing I seriously doubt that there is much difference between them now-a-days, but I've only had the liberty of riding the R1.

Any comment about the Yamaha R6? another great looking bike that seems to hold its own but I really haven't heard too much about it.

I always hear that the R6 has issues in the top end, but the top end on that bike is like 17,500 rpm, that's what the problem was: people said the limiter was engaging way before redline. Idk that was like the newer ones though. Never ridden R6.

Buy a real bike, that you can use in your real world environment.

You are not riding the right bike. My GSXR1000 was extremely nimble. Just need to stay over the tank. It will get away from you quickly. Plus a 90mph wheelie was always amusing.

You are also fat, and can keep a liter bike from coming up on you in any gear. :-\

I have rode a ninja and it was pretty quick and real torquie but handeling sucks major bike will fight you thru every turn. and yes yamaha is a good bike too. and jd do you even own a bike? I mean you talk at lot about the bad handeling of a liter bike but speak nothing of actually owning one whats up with that? or even riding one for that matter. for me the matter of liter of 600 was setteled by two things one price and two I would die on a liter bike. just not a good thing to get for a new guy in bikes
