Default E-thugs get owned by magazine editor

Sorry I don't have an actual link to the excerpt- but I'll try to sum it up for you.

One of the editors of "Turbo and High-Tech" magazine wrote a piece on the last two pages of the current magazine about internet forums and the idiocy that spawns there. He had several points that I thought were noteworthy, mainly that experts do not frequent these boards because their informed opinion will get shot down by the local OG poster and his posse. Also that to be considered an "expert" by him you have to be doing that sort of thing for a living.
He noted that there was absolutely no respect among differing opinions (tell us something we don't know) and that most actual experts don't waste their time trying to help someone who'll promptly be told the wrong things by a supposed "expert" on the site.

He cited one particular case where he registered anonymously (as per company policy) and tried to give an informed opinion to a person asking a question. The advise he gave was in direct contrast to the popular consensus on this board and he was subsequently flamed quite badly. He went on to state actual facts from SEMA and SAE that supported his claims. The internet poster refused to accept these valid points and instead, Tried to refute the claims by posting a quote the magazine editor had made 5 years ago that was taken out of context.

Now seriously, imagine someone arguing with you and unknowingly using something you said 5 years ago to try to win the argument! Ha Ha- 5 bucks says this was on H-T.

Anyway he went on to say that he's forming his own message board with real experts blah blah blah, but I thought that it was a well written piece, albeit information we already know.

Just thought it was interesting, what are your thoughts?

what is an expert--did he go to "tuner school" just because u know alot about turbos doesnt mean u know everything about how they run on cars. b16a spools bigger turbos than b18a. A turbo expert would not know that if he didnt have side info from us non-experts.

He was talking about industry leaders that tune their project vehicles and race-car's on a daily basis. Not engineering experts. Although there are plenty of those too.

He can go suck a DICK!

Knowledge is all great but experience is better, and how the hell is he gonna know every possible setup combination and how it will run... he cant, thats why site like HMT are great!

it is possible however that he was giving advice to some douche bag loser, and because of that he brands the whole comunity... its just like how ricers ruin it for everyone else...

Someone who sells advertising for a market driven economy should not discuss engineering merits. Bandwagons have little to do with engineering, and everything to do with Brand Naming.

I'd love to see the thread in question.

Good point.

On top of that, different crowds do things differently, and the HMT way isn't the same as the honda-tech way. Either way done correctly will work, but it's the opinions that make the decision, not that he's an "expert". "Experts" of engine building do things the way they like to. They don't all do the same thing to a given motor, so how can any of them be called experts if there is technically only 1 way to do it right, and everyone is doing it differently?

Experts don't belong on the internet anyway. Kinda like celebrities. They either want everyone to know they are who they are (big shots!!) or everyone kisses their *** and spouts/repeats anything the "expert" tells them. I think that's how the "you can only use honda bearings in a honda motor" thing got started. Either way, experts and celebrities ain't ----.

Apparently some magazine did a review on H-T and they ripped into them. So its likely the forum they are talking about is Honda-Tech
