Dyno Results from Yesterday
We had our spring opener local dyno day yesterday. I was the first one on the rollers. I was pretty satisfied with the results. This was AWD horsepower on a dyno dynamics, running E85. Boost was pretty steady at 23psi. My AFR's are all over the place as I've only done some street tuning so far this spring. I'm hoping to dyno tune it next week, and hopefully that'll get me a little bit more out of her.

Whats the specs on the build |
Re: Dyno Results from Yesterday
It redlines at 5500 Frank? ::)
I'm going to have to ride in it at a BBQ this summer Brandon. Still powdercoating? |
Re: Dyno Results from Yesterday
power starts falling at 5700rpms. im not saying it isnt fun to drive, I have a evo...same platform, love driving that car...but the boost doesnt kick in until 4500rpms...and it falls at around 5700. :-\
What is done to the car? |

Re: Dyno Results from Yesterday
Ya still powder coating. Austin and I just did some coating a few hours ago actually, and took him for a few rippers. I'll let him chime in on if the car is fun or not. ;)
Specs are a built 2.0 with eagle rods/mahle pistons, HKS 272 cams, PTE SCM50 turbo, tuning with DSMLink, revving to 8k. This was also with about 30 minutes of quick street tuning on the way to the shop. I'm setting up some time next week to get it tuned on the dyno, because my street tuning wasn't too hot since I can't log my wideband. The guy who will be doing the tuning is pretty good so hopefully he can work a little magic. It does seem to spool later then I'd expect, but really it isn't too bad because when I'm shifting at 8k, I'm still well above 4500 and spool is immediate. I was going to the event, expecting to hopefully break the 300hp mark since I really didn't change much from my last tune where I made 284, except that I am now on e85, switched from FFWD cams to HKS cams, and about 3psi more. The e85 has pretty much eliminated all knock problems I had before and is what made the most difference. So I was pretty happy with the results since I was expecting something more like 310. |
Re: Dyno Results from Yesterday
I wasn't quite at 25 psi. I told them to put 25 psi when they were strapping it down on the dyno, but during the two pulls, it was closer to 23.

Looks like one of the guys got my last pull on camera! Car didn't overheat, just leaking coolant out of the cap, and out of the the thermostat housing where the RTV didn't seal apparently. New cap and REAL gasket are now on the car!

Re: Dyno Results from Yesterday
any reason you switched from the FFWD to the HKS? bolt on 50 trims are lame shoulda went tubular and T3. car looks good though i love black 1ga's

Re: Dyno Results from Yesterday
Long story short, I was very dissapointed with how they treated me when I had an issue, and that just made me want to sell anything of theirs I had, and get something else. Also they didn't seem to perform up top like I had expected. So I just sold them, and got some tried and true HKS 272's. The FFWD cams were regrinds that were supposedly replicas of the HKS 272's, but when I put in the real HKS's, there was an apparent butt dyno difference, and the idle sounded a bit more lopey with the HKS's.
As for the turbo. I agree that a T3 is a better route to take when starting to make bigger power. But I'm still happy with this turbo so far. I went with a mitsu bolt on 50trim for ease of use, and because I didn't have the money to spend on a T3 manifold and external gate 3 years ago when I bought it. So it was a good option for me at the time. I am actually getting a new turbo setup here shortly though, but will probably wait to put it on until next year because I'd really like to max this setup out as much as I can before I upgrade. Plus I don't want to screw with the car much after it's running well. I want to enjoy it this season, not waste the summer away with it sitting on jack stands. The new turbo I'll be running is a T3 actually, an SC61 that is at Forced Performance right now being rebuilt. And the car isn't black, it's black cherry. :P http://a193.ac-images.myspacecdn.com...000565bb68.jpg |
Re: Dyno Results from Yesterday
my buddy is about to order the DKS272's so hopefully they perform decent, he talked to some guy at FFWD and said he was very nice and helpful.. he made 349 AWHP @ 23psi on a 2g elipse with a bone stock 6 bolt and a T3 50 trim and an AFC. hopefully 400 with the cams and maybe some more boost. you run the car at the track yet?
and black....black cherry. ---- it it looks black on my screen :6 |
Re: Dyno Results from Yesterday
Darren was great when I started talking to him. Fast responces, seemed helpful. It was how he handled my issue that I didn't like.
As for performance, I was the only one up here that I know of running his cams, and I didn't have them on for very long. But my first tune on them sure didn't show much for gains. For the price now a days, you should have your friend check out the Brian Crower cams. They are pretty cheap. There's one local guy putting down 700hp with the Brian Crower 280's. Just another option. Otherwise I hope he has success with the DKS ones, I just didn't give them much of a chance. And no I haven't ran it at the track yet, but when I do, I'll post up the times. |
