here is a 4X DVD+R/W NEC 1100A for $59
http://www.imagestore.us/product.asp...00A&dept_id=11
and a 8x DVD+R/W NEC 2500A for $90 from several retailers

i run a HP dvd200i now and my buddy has one of the NEC ones they both work real well especially NEC since they have a quality product for low price. These NEC units are white box they come as if u were a OEM computer builder in a WHITE BOX(duh) and software and maybe some instructions but installing drives is pretty much a generic operation that a monkey can do

this is where my buddy got his pre-modded ps2 for $290+s&h

you just use any dvd burning program and just do a straight up copy but we prefer nero burning rom. you just pay $29.99 for Blockbusters game pass and copy as many games as u can in a month.

thanks good info.

1. how good is the nec? i passed up the tdk (think it didnt support dvd-r or dvd+r i forget) and sprung for the plextor for my aunt. plextor has undeniably proven itself and i dont think i want any less. im still even scared of trying lite-on as i want more proven reliability. plextor is probably the most reliable piece in my systems over all these years.

2. do these shrunk dvd's on dvd-r's have problems in average tv dvd players? im sure they work in apex, but how about the typical best buy brands. i take it the dvdrw's only work in special players like apex as well?

3. you can do the same with retail ps2 games as well? i thought you had to rip a lot of stuff like the warez groups to fit on smaller discs or doing a straight copy would have too much protection.

i didnt know bb had that offer. think i might have to get a ps2 after i mod my xbox.

Re:DVD Burner!

i dunno ive never had a problem with any low price computer component besides a power supply which is understandable. DVD+R is the way to go since is the MOST COMPATIBLE with set top dvd players so ---- DVD-R becasue the media cost all the same now. now the "shrunk" DVDs have no problems they play like regular DVDs no one has to know. you do a dvd copy with the ps2 games. you use to have to rip and do all kinds of ---- to get it to fit on a CD but you can get DVD media for less than a $1 so just do a DVD copy and its done aslong as u have mod chip

Re:DVD Burner!

I've got the NEC, havent burned a bad DVD yet, movies/xbox/ps2. If anyone out there wants DVD-X Copy Platinum, the pre ban version let me know. i'll post it up on my server. It's pretty cool, fits any DVD an uses smart compression to make the bitch fit.

*NOTE: I don't condone piracy in any way shape or form. If you are gonna download my copy of DVD-X copy, you are not allowed to unless you Own the software and want a backup, following the rules and regulations of the DMCA. :P ;)

Re:DVD Burner!

OK, we need an idiot's guide to "backing up" DVD's. I downloaded DVD Shrink and I put the movie on my hard drive then I used Roxio to burn the file to a DVD-R and it won't play in any of my DVD players. If I want to burn right from DVD Shrink, what do I have to do? Any help would be greatly appreciated by those who are already enlightened in the art of "backing up" DVDs. ;D

Re:DVD Burner!

DVDShrink version 2.3 is the BEST one IMHO. Its what I use.

To whoever said DVD+R is more supported, wrong again, DVD-R is more supported, over 98% of DVD players. Whle DVD+R is like 95%. Who cares though, mine supports both, and its an Apex, so whoever else has a clone DVD player made by the company that makes apex products is good to, aka, Go Video and Initial and such.

I have a DVD-R/RW/+R/+RW it cost me 200 this summer, good ----, made by IO Magic.
