no spark, nothing coming out of the coil, but coil has power, etc...

then i came home and read there is a common problem with the ignitor on 87 causing this problem. so i'll replace it tomarrow hope it fixed it... lol

I thought DSMs didnt have any electronic issues...lol

seriously. Thats like saying you hit vtec in your neon. Conquests dont have 4g63s and thus no crankwalk and neons dont have vtec. Get the picture?

Car sounds sweet at an idle and tip-in, def needs a bigger turbo.

Do you have any way of fullscreening those damn videos? None of the fill screen double size etc options do anything.

What's up, fellas?! I'm new here...I just joined only a few short minutes ago after I saw the thread on "DSMs".

Conquest's / Starion's are good cars if taken care of. I had 2 of them...an '87 and an '88. My '88 had a full 3" exhaust system, 20g turbo, 284* cam, SAFCII, walbro 255, 2 secondary injectors and jet valve elim. kit, full hard piping(IC, turbo) and it ran very strong at 18-20psi. Wish I still had it!

Sold it to put the cash into my '95 Eagle Talon AWD. Mods are still basic with a 1g DSM 14b turbo thats been ported and wastegate welded shut to run an SBR cast manifold and 38mm tial wastegate, FMIC, 3" Megan downpipe to custom 4" catback, safcII, GM 3" MAF/MAFT, six puck sprung clutch, fuel mods and about 22psi all the way up to my 7K redline. Gettin' ready for a Bullseye T04b turbo at 20psi.

BTW, Starions and Conquests are not DSM's. They were made in Japan, not the US. Some were Imported to the states by Chrysler and given the name Conquest but are all 100 percent made in Japan.

As far as crankwalk is concerned, it's not as common as you think. It only happens to a very small percentage of DSM's. I have over 100K miles on my motor and no sign of crankwalk. ;)

Yeah, the small percentage of 7 bolt owners who are stupid enough to waste time and effort on anything except a 6 bolt swap. :-*

You can prevent crankwalk on the 7-bolts with a few easy tricks. Eliminate the balance shafts and oil squirters, avoid heavy PP's, and do regular oil changes. My friends was running strong with 18k miles, a centerforce clutch, and a GT35R until the differential blew up.

Mines a 00, you do have the ls6 intake manifold bastard :P. 01's were the year that had ring problems. My friends 01 ss blew, rings started giving out and then it threw a rod.

Watch the head, they blow headgaskets all the time and if I am correct they had a problem with cracking the heads on these when you turned up the boost. There were some companies that specialized in fixing the head problem. Great find, and a fun car to boot.

yeap, you need headers just to catch up :)

from what i read the "problem" with the rings is blowby and oil consumption from excessive low load high rpm driving, like cruising at 4k rpms so everyone notices you 8)

the turbo is tiny.

you should hear the compressor surge......

It's a properly weak motor. My coworker had several of these cars and he was constantly blowing ringlands with just 18psi boost on a stock turbo.
Best thing that can be done to these cars is drop in a 4g63 DOHC. The 2.6 liter engine belongs in a Pajero.

Jerry

The bullseye turbos are complete and utter ----. The correct name for them is bullshit power.
I have a bullseye in my Eclipse and I've never seen such a terrible fuckup of an exhaust housing before. First of all the wastegate actuator that came with it doesn't open the wastegate properly. Second of all the turbine housing is off some tiny ---- mitsu turbo and bored out to accept the 74mm exhaust wheel, the result is that the nozzle of the turbine housing is 15mm wide but the scroll is not much bigger. This means all the exhaust enters the turbo in one place and the scroll doesn't do anything and the exhaust housing cracks really fast. Also lots of back pressure and lots of lag too from the fucked up turbine housing. I plan to replace mine with a full Garrett.
