DSM Questions...

Hey this is Chris, Samson (Josh's Buddy). I searched around on here an Google and couldn't find what I was looking for and I was hoping you all might know.

i recently bought a 91 plymouth laser off of a buddy and he said that the motor had blew so i am looking for a new motor for the car. the turbo and all the intercooler pipes or perfect so that was a plus! after looking into buying the new motor i found out that the dsm turbo motor cost 1400 dollars and which the non turbo motor only cost around 5 to 6 hundred . so i was wondering if the motors are really that differenti mean there both dohc and everything and by looks they look the same i know that dont really matter but i was wondering if i bought the non turbo motor and just swapped everything like injectors and manifold turbo etc. if it would hurt anything and if i would run good.

thanx alot guys

chris

The engine's are different internally, I can't remember exactly what all is different but the NA sucks compared to the turbo, and you're better off buying the turbo regardless.

It's a 4g63. The non turbo motors are crap.

For starters they don't have piston oil squirters.

so its not worht the money for the non turbo so i would be better off spending the money for the turbo engine

thanx alot guys

go to a junkyard..you can get one way cheaper than that. Hell, you could get a whole running turbo dsm for 1400.

Oil squirters are irrelivant.

The blocks are the same. Different cams, pistons, rods, injectors, ecu, ect...

It isn't worth the money to put any time into a N/T 4g63 unless you just scrap it and set the shortblock aside for a spare.

1g's are cheap anyways. Do it right the first time.

The intake cam is different, pistons are 9:0.1 in the non turbo 7:8.1 in the turbo, rods are the same, injectors are 390cc compared to 450cd,ecu is different, and the non turbos have no knock sensor which could be bad if not tuned right with those pistons. The harness is also different, since it dosent have the plug for the knock sensor incorperated
