I stand by my quote that DSM's are junk. The 4g63 is ------- awesome and can make stupid power just because they can hold boost. Everything attached to the motor is ------- pathetic though. The engine/drivetrain was designed for a car that soaking wet tipped the scales at 2500lbs. The lightest of factory dsms weighs 2750.

Harness is junk. ECUs have always been junk. Just generally a mechanics car. A properly built and maintained dsm (read:dragstrip warrior) is a thing of beauty, but the sad truth is that most arent. Not to mention the fact that 5 years ago, nobody wanted anything to do with them, and now they are so popular, parts are ------- OMG JDM 2JZ supra expensive. The newest of these cars is approching 10 years, which makes it even worse. Bleh.
I'll agree 100% with you there. I've seen stock bottom 6 bolts take some serious abuse and watch bolt-on 7 bolts ---- the bed within 50 miles. Hell, I've even seen stock block evo 8 7 bolts run into the mid 500whp mark and also seen them self destruct on a stock turbo that spiked too high (I have pics to prove that one too). It's kind of hit or miss these days...most 4g63's never really had the maintenance they required and have a butt-load of miles on them. Harnesses are always a nightmare, and not just on older DSM's either, even new ones (like my Evo for instance that had 8 connectors in the driver's side kick panel corroded solid).

Yeah the germans are bad for that ---- too.

I drove an evo X. I cant help but think that mitsu's engineers had a lot of seat time in the MKV GTI before they built the X.

Mitsu missed their mark by quite a bit with the new X. I got to drive the standard 5 speed model and my friend's GSR model, and I'm honestly not impressed with it...not for a $40k price tag anyway. It seems like their trying to compete more against the middle age BMW crowd.

Well, it's not an option, but I say you drive the car like you have some common sense for a lil while, and when money allows replace the bullshit parts(cheechnchong turbo mainly) with some higher quality ----. They have a bad rep but I really like those cars... ESPECIALLY the 1g's with a 6-bolt block...And I happen to like the fact that those cars are all coming up on 20 years old.

Im willing to bet youd like what im about to get. The last remaining mint dodge colt. Not turbo but easily remedied. It needs a drivers side seat cover and a VC gasket. Runs ------- awesome.

4G15 is an effeminant if worthy beater engine.

It'll also hold boost like a D16. Hint hint.

Yes, an awesome sleeper. I know some of those were turbocharged from the factory, but I think the engine had a little less displacement than the 4g63(I've seen a few with the 4g63 swapped in)...I'd like to see what can be done with the N/A motor...

4g63 = 1997cc (2.0L) = Cast iron madness

4g15 = 1468cc (1.5L) = Fail

Just shove a 4g64 in there, no balance shafts, no crank-walk, no puny eninge.
