Iv tryed tons of dslrs I curently have a olympus evolt 500, Its a nice cam but It leave alot to be desired. For a beginer go with a d40 great bang for the money Im going to buy the d40x 10mp just an awsome camera.

We started off with the Canon Rebel XT, GREAT beginner camera. Once you learn HDR it's a whole new world as well.

I'm only saying that a lot of people think that it's the camera that takes good pictures. It's not I've seen just as good with point and shoots, plus alot of it is post processing.

i wouldn't go out of my way and compare an slr to a p&s camera. Thats like comparing apples to oranges.
