Default Down2turbo reman is ----.

Well some of you remember my old red EK I sold last summer. I had purchased a T3 .48/.60 60 trim from Down2turbo. The turbo was purchased in January but not installed till around April. Most of you that know me also know I never drive what I build. More or less just a hobby. I put about 100 miles on that turbo before selling the car. My neighbor who bought it from me put 2700 miles on it. The turbo is now completely ----. side to side play is about normal but it has a great amount of in and out play. WTF happened to this turbo? The guy I sold it to blew the motor so he sold it to another one of my friends. He is now stuck with a ---- turbo. Is there any reason for in and out play? Should I bother trying to rebuild this?

Thanks for the insight
David

Damn, I heard some people were having problems with them a while back.

One thing I heard might be the problem with those turbos is that they are actually diesel type turbos and not rated to handle the high EGT's a gas motor produces. I have no idea if there is any truth to that, but that's what I heard.

Yeah, it just sucks. The turbo is like brand new. He is looking into having it rebuilt.

I just had the same problem, I purchased a to4b from him about 1 1/2 to two years ago and installed the turbo on my rex like last week, i drove it for a little bit and noticed that there was oil leaking out of the intake side of the turbo, and that it had about an inch of shaft play, i had hardly drive the damn thing at all, and on my way home from work the other day the seals totally wore out and oil was dumpin straight into the downpipe, and that bitch was smoking like all hell, everyone i worked with thought my car was on fire, anyway down2turbo can suck my dick cuz i paid like 400 for that ------- turbo....

If the motor blew, I'd be suspicious that's how the turbo went too. No telling.

I know how he blew the motor. He turned up the boost to 15 lbs with a 10 lbs map in it. I just got a response from down2turbo that said he thinks it was from a dry start and gauled a bit then got worse while driving. Sounds like a line of ---- to me.

the seals went on mine and i was only boosting maybe 4psi on a 10psi map, i seriosly drove it to my friends house and when i got there there was oil coming out of the intake side. MY oil return was fine down and then into the oil pan so im positive there was no buildup, also a lot of people were complanning about his turbos around the time i purchased mine and then like two weeks later he was no where to be found on ebay. Im guessing he is back on there now, really pissed me off though....
