Do i really need to upgarde clutch after turbo?

Say i got 170whp instead of the 105whp stock.. do i need to upgrade my clutch?

If yes, should I do this before I turbo so I can break it in and it'll be ready for the dyno etc? Or after I turbo?

Will the stock hold for that much power on the dyno etc?

I have the $$ but if my stock can hold for a while, i want to use it up.. or at least see how long it can last.

d16y8 - RHB5, 7-8psi, about 170whp or so

i haven't changed mine yet. 2500 miles later and still holding...i haven't done any high rpm clutchdrops yet. i'm sure it's not going to last too long. i'm currently looking so i'll be ready when it goes.

how much hp you got again? 150whp? i think it'll hold around 140-160 possibily.. but i think if you slip it then it'll fail..

i had the impression that the clutch would fail during the engagement right? not when it's already fully engaged?

what i mean is, if the clutch is fully locked to the flywheel, can it slip?

Yes it can fail when it's fully engaged, cause at the higher rpm's the engine will make it's most power..

Correct. When some1 says their clutch is slipping it means that they would be in 2nd gear and all of a sudden it woul feel like they are in neutral and the engine just jolts for the red line. Mind you, that is in extreme cases. I dont think the clutch disc is the actual cause of this. I think its the pressure plate that can't put enough force on to the clutch disc/fly wheel to hold it on there securely.

This isn't quite on the subject, but how hard is it to replace a clutch? Someone told me the motor HAS to come out. The tranny defienetly needs to come out right?

Also, does anyone know the code for a del sol si tranny?

THanks

To remove the clutch you need to drop the tranny, you dont need to pull hte entire engine out of the car, that would make work about 10 times harder. Go and get a helms manual for your car and it will walk you though how to do a clutch step by step. And i do belive the OBD1 SOHC VTEC tranny is a S20. 500 POSTS!!!WOOHOO!!!!!lol <- had to put it somewhere;)

Try using an ACT disc (about $75) and have a cluth shop rebuild your pressure plate for higher hp setup (about $75) for an economical clutch setup. There is a turbo integra at the track near me that runs low 13's with this setup.

so if it slips then i should get the clutch before dyno tuning? cuz it'll slip on the dyno and what's the point then?

jsut replace it with a good stage 2 setup. my clutch didnt last a week after boosint 10psi all week long. you need to get that done sooner or later, just make it sooner ;D

Re:Do i really need to upgarde clutch after turbo?

I used a brand new centerforce clutch setup and the clutch slipped in about a month of everyday use, dump the clutch at 3 grand here and there. I have a d16a6 boosted 6psi and I am using the ACT 6puck clutch, best clutch out there for the best price for my knowledge. It has a guarentee that it can handle any mounds of power or if it slips they will replace. look into ACT clutches, its worth it, its a pain in the ass to keep on replacing clutches in my crx.
