Who ------- cares?
I have $1050 burning a hole in my pocket right now. Based on experienced feedback I'm waiting for in an electronics forum, I'll either save another $200 for a sweet Tektronix TDS2004B scope, or go with one of the less expensive equivalvent Agilent or GW Instek units. 60Mhz, 4 input, color screen, USB interface, portable battery option, 5 lb pieces of plastic FTW. |
Re: DIY rotational balancing (engine rotating assy, TURBOS)
I want to grow up to be just like you JD.

Re: DIY rotational balancing (engine rotating assy, TURBOS)
What do you think about the Instek GOS-6103's??? How do they compare to the tektronix???
Only reason im asking is because we have one here at the shop...and since im illiterate in the EE world, i'd be nice to know if im dealing with decent equipment.... |
Re: DIY rotational balancing (engine rotating assy, TURBOS)
It's not as useful to me, I need something different, but it is a pretty solid piece.

Re: DIY rotational balancing (engine rotating assy, TURBOS)
I have zero interest in analog scopes.

Re: DIY rotational balancing (engine rotating assy, TURBOS)
We use a textronix digital scope in work. Along with various other 20mhz scopes. Unless you want to analyse digital signals (we use the digital scopes for HDMi) the cheaper analogue scopes are good enough. The storage and triggering options are fiddly but seriously useful.
I suppose alot of your reasoning is, the tektronix items are portable. Which for working with cars is a godsend. I work with hifi, as a rule it's stationary. I'd be tempted to buy a cheap scope for the workbench (second hand and old). And one for working in/on cars. Good idea about keying it to a position sensor. Of course, honda already have them fitted ;D |

Re: DIY rotational balancing (engine rotating assy, TURBOS)
now reading up on automotive applications how to suck cocks better..
different tests http://www.labscopes.com/pg06.htm among many others.. low compression in cylinder #2 determined by comparing it to the other cylinders aka relative compression test boosh! http://www.labscopes.com/pg18.htm#b |

Re: DIY rotational balancing (engine rotating assy, TURBOS)
buk, that picotech stuff is junk. Better off eBaying a used analog benchtop piece for $75 to the door.

Re: DIY rotational balancing (engine rotating assy, TURBOS)
It's actually super easy... just hook up some probes to some sensors.
|
Re: DIY rotational balancing (engine rotating assy, TURBOS)
analog scopes put hair on you're chest
|
Re: DIY rotational balancing (engine rotating assy, TURBOS)
Analog scopes suck for sharing results, freeze frame snapshots, portability, etc.
I'll probably end up with an analog BK unit or older Tek at some unit for "beater duty," but the majority of what I'd use a scope for... analog is cumbersome and awkward. |
Re: DIY rotational balancing (engine rotating assy, TURBOS)
Just get an analog with a Polaroid backup... that's some hardcore ---- right there :)
For balancing - Would you just position probes in a way to measure contrasts of voltages until they "level" out? |
