Disturbing facts on margarine

Some awkward facts :o :
Pass The Butter ~ ~ ~ ~ This is interesting . . .

Margarine was originally manufactured to fatten turkeys.

When it killed the turkeys, the people who had put all the money into the

research wanted a pay back so they put their heads together to figure out what to do with this product to get their money back.

It was a white substance with no food appeal so they added the yellow coloring and sold it to people to use in place of butter.

How do you like it?

They have come out with some clever new flavorings.

DO YOU KNOW...the difference between margarine and butter?

Read on to the end...gets very interesting!

Both have the same amount of calories.

Butter is slightly higher in saturated fats at 8 grams compared to 5 grams.

Eating margarine can increase heart disease in women by 53% over eating the same amount of butter, according to a recent Harvard Medical Study.

Eating butter increases the absorption of many other nutrients in other foods.

Butter has many nutritional benefits where margarine has a few only because they are added!

Butter tastes much better than margarine and it can enhance the flavors of other foods.

Butter has been around for centuries where margarine has been around for less than 100 years.

And now, for Margarine...

Very high in trans fatty acids.

Triple risk of coronary heart disease.

Increases total cholesterol and LDL (this is the bad cholesterol) and lowers HDL cholesterol, (the good cholesterol)

Increases the risk of cancers up to five fold.

Lowers quality of breast milk

Decreases immune response.

Decreases insulin response.

And here's the most disturbing fact....

HERE IS THE PART THAT IS VERY INTERESTING!

Margarine is but ONE MOLECULE away from being PLASTIC...

This fact alone was enough to have me avoiding margarine for life and anything else that is hydrogenated (this means hydrogen is added, changing the molecular structure of the substance).

You can try this yourself:

Purchase a tub of margarine and leave it in your garage or shaded area.

Within a couple of days you will note a couple of things:

* No flies, not even those pesky fruit flies will go near it (that should tell you something)

* It does not rot or smell differently because it has no nutritional value

* Nothing will grow on it. Even those teeny weenie microorganisms will not a find a home to grow.

Why? Because it is nearly plastic.

Would you melt your Tupperware and ------ that on your toast?

Share This With Your Friends..... (If you want to "butter them up")!

Chinese Proverb:

"When someone shares something of value with you and you benefit from it,

You have a moral obligation to share it with others."

You can turn a lot of ---- into a polymer. The effect of trans fatty acids has been known for a long time. The original slang term for margearine was "oleo" Short for Olefin, meaning that it's been well known for a long time that it's an alkene. But you can also turn alkynes and alkanes into plastic also, which butter is.

Yeh ill still eat it. If they can make up ---- like this imagine what they'd say about McDonalds :8

There's a ton of ---- that's one molecule away from being dangerous.

It ain't as horrible as that email makes it sound...people have ate it forever. Not healthy but not worse than most people's drinking/smoking habits.

Re: Disturbing facts on margarine

when oleo was first sold, you have to mix in the food coloring yourself so it couldn't be confused with butter.

And aspirin is one molecule away from being LSD. This means absolutely nothing, welcome to chemistry 101.

margarine is used for cooking... you cant ------ margarine on some corn on the cob and say mmmm tasty... but when making baked food or rice.. you cant tell the difference

Re: Disturbing facts on margarine

I can't tell a difference when ------ing/spraying it versus cooking with it.

Re: Disturbing facts on margarine

I'm sure neither is good for you. The question is which one is not as bad for you. Butter is made from more natural products where margarine is man made. I'll stick with my butter. My family has a history of heart desease so I need to take every precaution I can to lower colesterol etc.

Re: Disturbing facts on margarine

Why does it matter if something is man-made or natural? Molecules are molecules, they all contain the same atoms. It's not like natural molecules are better than man-made molecules. What matters is the effect on the body these things might have, and I seriously doubt my vegetable oil "butter" spray is going to harm me.

Re: Disturbing facts on margarine

If something is natural your body knows how to break it down. Your body doesn't know what to do with margarine/unnatural (manmade) products. That's why it increases the likelyhood of cronic heart desease by 53%.

If you want to keep your arteries clean, eat nothing but veggies and meat. All 100% natural ----. If you want to keep the heart attack rate up keep eating margarine, mcdonalds, etc.

That's if the veggies and meat are all natural and not enhanced. Is the water purifed that is being used to water the plants or be given to animals or the food they eat natural? I do notice it tastes not as great on toast and corn on the cob. When used in cooking I can't really tell the difference. That's just more for us and less for bugs. 8)

People will argue that synthetic molecules are worse because they form "unnatural" compounds in the body, the molecules aren't always the same. Most organic glucosamine compounds are assimilated as lypids and neurotransmitter protiens, some synthetic compounds can lead to tangent molecules that aren't exactly good for bodily functions, i.e. the "natural" chemical reaction is altered by the introduction of random molecules that were formed "unaccounted for"/ "tolerable".

This means many things, not many of them good. Bottom line is people aren't as good at putting stuff together as physical law.
