Haha, I remember reading an article in a magazine a long time ago. They took a bone stock 92-95 Civic to the track and strapped it to a dyno. The thing had like a million miles on it and produced more horsepower then it came with stock. They came to the conclusion that it had higher compression due to the massive carbon buildup in the combustion chamber.
That's some funny ----.

"hey kids! want a faster car? put a few thousand miles on that bitch +1hp!"

Nope. Didn't misunderstand them. "They" are my friends who are looking for the quick cheap HP pick-up, I guess. They are doing this to raise compression in the engine. It supposedly swells the piston making a tighter seal and raising the compression. I was "ROFL" because I don't listen to everyone's BS and my buddy did it to his car and it runs like poop now. I doubt it was the water because it happened a day or 2 AFTER he sprayed the water. I just like asking about these kinda things because I get raped about my knowledge about cars and these nignogs are spraying water in there engine to get the extra "boost" they need.

lol the good ol water trick.

ive read up on this so ill put some info here aswell.

in the world of rotarie engines, we get allot of carbon build up. when we rev the snot out of our cars, a lil piece of carbon slamming into an apex seal could knock the apex seal and the apex seal will most likely break and take out everything on its relentless path o destruction.

so what do we do? we use the water trick. basically what we do is tap a vacume line ( mush better than spraying the water in there directly) and just dup the hose into a gallon of water. it will spuit and sputter but you gotta keep it revved up. steam will start to exit the exhaust and eventually once you have the a gallon of water through your engine your good to go. nice and shiney on the inside and the steam even cleaned your cats and mufflers and black water/---- should have sprayed all over neighboring friends/ animals/ objects.

now this will slightly increase compression because there is added extra ---- in the combustuon chamber. on a piston engine the engine mus be warmed up pretty good. this is because the moment the water hits the combustion chamber, it gets super heated and unstantly turns int steam. this can be compressed. this increses compression slightly. but not significant enough.

it also cleans your combustion chamber well because it swirls inside luterally scrubbing every pore. knocking lose carbon.

thats my $.02

"they" sound pretty retarded. HOWEVER, water/alcohol injection does work and I know this from experience. Its like steam cleaning your engine. It keeps it VERY clean. I used water injection on my Jackson setup with very good results. The sole idea is to cool intake temps allowing for more timing and fuel. You have to get the right atomization for it to be effective. Just a few squirts in there wont do ---- lol. Mine was setup to trigger at 6psi of boost. It shot a very fine mist directly into the intake and cooled the intake charge almost 30 degrees instantly. Thats where your HP increase comes from.

Yes of course, but these guys are talking about something different.

if you want some more compression, jsut drop some B-B's down the spark plug holes....it should work good...the more B-B's the higher the compression...jsut don't over do it newb

ive done that before

it ultimatly lowers compression mainyl because your engine blows up.

Over time you build up a lot of carbon on the pistons. This accually will RAISE the compression of your motor, and potentially cause knock/detonation.

Water is a really old school way of cleaning the engine out, and doesn't work that great. But it DOES work to clean off your pistons and break the carbon up on them.

Nowadays there are products like mopar combustion chamber cleaner (MCCC) http://www.vfaq.com/mods/MCCC.html (this guide is for DSM's but can be used on any car) It works great. I've do it around every 10,000 miles on my cars. Keeps the pistons shiny clean and free of buildup.

A lot of old school carbureted engine guys still do the water cleaning, but not so much anyone in the FI world that I am aware of.

So this would lower compression not raise it... GM has a Top End Cleaner and so does Seafoam. I Seafoamed my DOHC ZC and the insides where nice and clean when I took the head off.

Yeah it might swell the pistons if they were made of wood and you put water on them....
