Default Dirtbike advice

I'm looking into a dirtbike for the summer, whats a good medium level bike. I've been researching but havn't found too much good info. There are a million different bikes out there so everything I read is saying something different.

I'm 5'8 bout 160lbs and want some decent power, my buddy has a kx250 which he says would be too much bike for me.

oh and i don't wanna spend more than 1500, somethin older thats not so pretty would do me just fine,

a good starter bike is ummmmmm i would say any bike that is in the mid 90's or newer...your friend has a 250 and he said it to much ummmm no i think a 250 is a great CC to go for i have an 01 kx 250 and love it... i was a kid that was riding 80's for years then jumped straight to a 250...---- a 125 not enough power for my riding style. deff get a 250 you will love the power of it and you dont have to ride it ***** to the walls like you do on a 125...but it you choice.....

but back to you post...any brand will do for a starter bike, i like kawasaki or honda b/c i have had both...i recently just sold my 98cr250 for $1400 so you can get a decent bike for around $1500...just make sure you go over the bike and see if it been trashed...a couple good ways to tell is 1. look at both rims to see if cracked then check spokes make sure they are all tight..2. look at motor make sure there is not tons on oil all over it..3. check the suspension make sure it dont bounce like a pogo stick...4. ask a ---- load of ? to the owner and look at his other stuff...if he has a trashed cars or house or other bikes you can kind of tell if its been trashed...if you have any more Question there are a couple of people on this site that ride bikes or quads....ohhh and a 3 wheeler (just for you RandomStrike)....

i've heard the whole 250 being too much for beginers in my area...its kinda weird, i think it has to do with what kind of riding is done in the area...but i think you'll do fine on a 250...if you have a friend that knows how to build a top end on a 2stroke you can save money by buying one that needs a top end rebuild...spend like $600-$800 on the bike and $150 on the top end and you got a bike for under $1000 that you can resale for $1200-$1500(maybe more) depending on the bike and year

thanks for the info
so i suppose i'll look for a 125 or 250, what are the major diff in 2stroke vs 4. i know the differences engine wise but how does the ride differ? any advantages of one over the other? I suppose 4 stroke would be a little smoother and easier to ride
never ridden a 2 stroke btw

2 stroke is tons of maintence, 4 stroke is for weekend riders with no ***** lol jp no i have own both 2 and 4 either will work just remember to take care of the bike, here are some tips 2 stroke clean the air filter before each ride never leave gas in the tank between rides wash the bike afterwards it will help in locating problem areas keep tyhe chain adjusted correctly and lubed, change the crankcase oil every other ride if there is white residue on any aluminum part on the bike dont buy, it is from sitting in the weather look for pitting on the rear shock rode also a sign of sitting not to mention that it will blow out the rear shock, take the air filter out when you look at the bikes it will tell you alot about the owner and the maintence they did

i dont see why people say this i have had my 01 kx 250 for almost 3 years and still havenot rebuilt the top end and the bitch is still running strong as when i first got it...i think 2 strokes are less maintance than 4 strokes....when you blow the top end on a 2 stroke..what about 150 you do that ---- on a new 4 stroke you will spend close to 400-500 depends who rebuild it...but as long you change your oil after a couple rides and the same with the air filter...and re-tight the chain you should have any problems...if this is going to be your 1st bike get a 2stroke...hell of a lot cheaper to maitain then 4 strokes....

shut it asshat i am 100% sure u are a dumbass when it comes to maintence, funny how my xr 600 was never touch on the top end in the 6 yrs i had it but all my 2 stroke needed a fresh top end ever 4 months note that i raced in the pro-open class the last three years i rode
