A better idea would be to take a standard V8 but just run one bank as a 4 cylinder. Then use the other bank as an air compressor and use that to feed the power bank. A special camshaft and crank would be required. Still retarded but not nearly as retarded.

oddly enough I've seen examples of that concept tried in text books when I was in school.

That would take alot of NO2 to cool off the exhaust from ~1600? to ~110? acceptable intake temp.
