Taken using a Kodak DC3400 2.0 Mega Pixel w/ Optical Zoom on Medium quality setting.

3 things to look for when buying a digi cam.

1. Mega Pixel, the more the better, 3.x is the average now a days.
2. Zoom.. you want OPTICAL ZOOM not DIGITAL. Digital is the same as zooming in w/ MS Paint. Everything gets blocky. Optical zoom actually moves the lens in and out and is 100x sharper then digital zoom.
3. Memory. most cameras come w/ 16mb built in the camera itself. It's not removable and holds about 8-10 highest quality, 10-14 medium quality and 50+ low quality. Most cost efficent upgrade is a 256 mb card that will hold 300+ HIGHEST quality pics.

We bought my dad a new digi cam (one i use is work's cam). It's a HP 3.2 MP, 3x optical zoom and 5x digital zoom 16mb built in and all the doo dads u need. 200CDN$ + tax.

3 megapixel works fine the only way i would get any higher is if you plan to blow pictures up to a larger size then i would get a 5

Re:Digital Cam's

I have an Olympus C-3030 zoom that I got for free. Someone at my girlfriend's work dropped it and couldn't get it to work, so they bought a new one. The media door is missing from it which has a sensor to make sure it's shut. I just shoved a piece of a qtip in there to trip the sensor and it works great ;) The case is cracked, but it doesn't affect anything.

The picture quality is pretty damn good for the price. We just went on vacation to Universal Studios/Disney World and used it the whole time (10 days, 300+ pics) with no problems. I'm at work now so I'll post some pics when I get home.

better than my camera...

think mine is a 1.0 or 1.3mp the only reason my pics look ok is cuz the camera/software blows them up ------ huge and i have to resize them. cant take pics up close either...

I was gonna buy one this year, but I didn't. The guy at best buy told me that 2.0 and lower won't come out good, but crx88si looks to have a good one. I think he was probably trying to make that commish. Hopefully soon I'll pick one up. :-\

I wasn't gonna buy one from the guy anyway. It was this young mexican guy that was trying to be cool with me by saying "bro" 3 times a sentence. "You know what I mean bro?" I can't stand that ----. I'm just talking to you like a normal white man. Why can't you do the same? >:(

SM: Sent you an email w/ the full sized version of 1 of those pics. those are cut down 50%

but I do have one big suggestion for any1 whos going to buy a digi cam. Invest in some GOOD rechargable batteries. these suckers go through battery's like most people do socks. A good choice is the NiHM Energizer. Stands for Nickel Metal. atleast 4 (1 set).

Re:Digital Cam's

I was a butt hair away from buying a badass digital camcorder at Best buy the other day, but something turned me away. I had the money in my hand, but I don't know why I just didn't buy it. ???

Anyways, here is a pic from my camera. It's a Kodak Easy Share CX4200. I think I bought it for like $179. It's kinda cheesy and the options suck, but it takes pictures. It eat batteries like you wouldn't believe and for some reason the batteries that came with the travel pack I bought don't last very long at all. Even with a full charge they seem weak. When I plug it into my computer to upload it always says "battery power is low, please conect to a different source", but it still transfers. ???

Re:Digital Cam's

He's ½ way right. It won't come out good at a higher resolution. If you try to print it on an 8x10 it won't look nearly as good as a 3-5 megapixel cam would. It all really depends on what you'll be using it for. If you just print 5x7's and use it for taking pics to post on the web, a 2 mp cam will work just fine. When you want a good high res print though, you won't be able to get it.

Before this the free cam I got fell into my lap, I was doing a lot of research on this subject because we were going on vacation and I wanted a good digicam. I was going to buy the Pentax Optio S4, but there are alot of factors that went into that decision.

Here is a great site for checking the cams out. It has some of the most comprehensive comparisons I've yet to see.

Re:Digital Cam's

well we hooked up my dads new camera to the pc last night. MAN was this ever nice to install. Usually you're hit with like 3 driver that u need to install. Not this one. Download a file (albiet large file, 130mb) from the HP Website and install it. Plug in the camera and thats it! So nice. Little screen pops up on the cameras display "Connecting to computer...", "Connect, transfering pictures".

One thing struck me though. The files were HUGE (almost 1 meg). So I figure they're BMP. NOPE. JPEG. So I check the size, the ENTIRE screen was full at 1024*768 at only 31% zoom! LOL! Camera.. Hewlet Packard 735.

Re:Digital Cam's

dude, get a sony! i got a sony 3.2 with video and sound for 200 bucks! i love it and in my opinion, it's the best for the money and i just upgraded my memory stick to 128mb, so now i can save over 100 pics at 3.2 and up to about 5 minutes of video. i think it's called the sony "p32" or "ps32" something like that, i know it has a p and a 32 in the name, there is also a "p72", it's about 50 bucks more, but i think the only difference is the zoom b/c it is 3.2 also.
