Did I overdo it?

I've been working on my sunfire gt lately, ordered a lot of exterior mods. I purchased the car for $225 but it needs a new engine and air bags so I couldnt pass it up for my project car.

Either way I wanted to know if you guys think its looking overdone with the body kit being too agressive or what not. Doesnt look much like a sunfire anymore...

Before: (after my brother took my gt rims for his car)

After I mounted the front bumper, fenders and hood...now the engine is out so its all removed again.

looks ricey

Re:Did I overdo it?

Ricey or not.. It fits well. A lot of kits I have seen have to be hacked and slashed to fit correctly. Not bad..

Re:Did I overdo it?

ricey, but plenty of room for a big as intercooler, prove the rice haters wrong!! :o

does that bumper go over the hood a little in the middle?...my eyes are playing tricks on me

Re:Did I overdo it?

random-strike actually its a ground hog catcher modified onto my bumper. You see here in my home town in michigan we have quite the ground hog problem. I figured a turbocharged sunfire could take care of them :)

I do plan on mounting a large intercooler in the gap, thats part of why I chose this bumper. The other was is that everyone has the streetfire kit so I wanted to be different.

Everyone has their own term for rice I suppose, I've always considered it mainly APC products and tons of stickers for accessories that you dont have on the car.

The car will be graphite metallic when its done. I'm using the dodge color thats on the dakota pickups as well as the dode vipers, looks real sleek in my opinion.

Yes it goes over the middle, andy's auto sport makes products that dont fit for some reason. The rear bumper is at least 3 inches oversized. Either way I have to cut and mold that piece to go smoothly with the hood, just havent gotten around to it yet.

Re:Did I overdo it?

you should do whatever you want to do. but make sure all the peices of your body are the same color.

but sometimes i wonder, if cars with those kinda bumpers were made in the US, JAPAN, or outer space...

Re:Did I overdo it?

Good starting point for a project. $250 wow I would have grabed that up myself. Now what do you have in mind for under the hood? I personally have always wanted to use the supercharger 3800 V6 out of the Park Ave, 240 HP stock with lots of low end tourq. Over drive the blower with a simple pully change and you could have a 300 HP monster. If it would fit! It would probably handle like crap thoug.

Re:Did I overdo it?

Custom coach - For now I plan on putting a 2000 2.4 Twin Cam in it, pretty much the stock engine. I thought about the 3.8 supercharged..its been done once but its a whole lot of work. I dont really have a lot of money, I'm a college student so thats why I picked this car. The engine will be turbocharged though, running probalby 8psi till I upgrade internals.

redzcstandardhatch - I go to ferris state in big rapids but I'm from an area real close to clarkston. Clarkston its by pontiac and waterford about a half hour north of detroit.

Yes and no, the charger only works on 00+ engines because they removed the egr valve from those models. It also only works on standard transmissions because of the flashing of the ecu. I have a 96 and its an auto...although I plan to use a 00+ engine and it could be made to work on my car with an fmu. Its still $2500 for the charger and I could build a turbo system much cheaper than that and produce more power.

The charger is somewhat undersized for our engines and the main reason people us it is because you can keep your factory warranty with it.

Re:Did I overdo it?

If you are going to turbocharge it then i can see the huge bumper ,im just not a huge fan of kits. But hell dude its your car so do what you want you will never please everyone. But for now i will have to agreee with abaz

Re:Did I overdo it?

yeah, i know where ferris state is.......never been there though.....you gonna convert it to a manual? if its all apart now i would recomend it.....ive driven both auto and manual cavaliers and the manual's were about 10,938,049 times more fun.....for a cavalier that is.......hehe. just kidding.....they are fun little cars, there are just way too many riced out ones around my area that talk a lot of ---- and try to fight you when they lose....bastards

Re:Did I overdo it?

My feeling is that if you have or plan to have the power to back up the looks, it's fine. I think it looks pretty good, and when you have a big ass intercooler in there, it would look great, and If you like it, who cares.

wildman 03-08-2003 08:48 AM

Re:Did I overdo it?

Stick a big ass intercooler in there and you have an excuse for the nose.. Persoanlly I like it and dont think you need an acuse. :)

Re:Did I overdo it?

i dunno why but i never was too fond of Z3 fenders... i'll give ya one thing, that bumper's pretty damn aggressive... the hood sorta emphasizes the rest... but where's the skirts/rear bumper/wing? whatever you do, don't get an aluminum wing. I hate aluminum wings soooooooo much.

Man, i think that car's gonna be a MEGA chick-magnet. Girls love Sunfires.
