Did I just get $380 in free money?
 

So on friday I deposit my check.

The amount (because I was sick as hell, missed 7 days, and took a $900 draw) was $587.53.

I deposited that amount minus $380 so I could pay the rent when I got home and get a haircut and what not.

I look at my bank account today, and my deposit amount is $587.53, when it should be $207.53 because of the $380 cash I kept.

Did I just get free money? Think Wells Fargo will fix the error? Is there a time limit on this sort of thing to where it just becomes mine?

It will NOT go unmissed. Its happened to me before and they will catch it.

Dont you have to sign a slip for record of the transaction? Remember the ammount for deposit that was on that slip? If that said 583XX then youre set, but if it said 2XX and the rest was cash then they would probably catch it

one time i got a withdraw from the bank and they put the wrong account number in 3 months later i got a bill from the bank and had to pay it

i filled out the slip myself.

i remember writing 207.xx in the deposit amount. I am sure its a teller error. And yes I signed the slip.

If they notice it, do you think the error will be fixed in a timely manner. I don't want that money still sitting there in a month wondering if they're gonna take it.

They have this thing called "accounting" and when the money he got isn't accounted for they will find out where it went missing.

One time the electric company forgot to cash a check I wrote to them. That was a free ~$150. I still wonder if they are just going to decide to cash it one day. :-\

i think after so long banks wont cash seriously old checks anymore. not sure tho.

It depends on your bank, but the longest I know of is checks that are over 180 days old are void.

Nice. It's been at least 4 months. ;D

The only thing I did different was I sent it in the mail directly to the company instead of dropping it off at the local office. I haven't sent one in the mail since then because I didn't want them to find out and cash the last one. ;D

you know, it might be an over draft ? i had that once, there was 80 $ in my bank account i didnt know about, and here i took it out, and got charge 110 $ for it :-\

personal checks are good for 6 monthhs, business/corp. checks good for 12 months.

I thought I lost my scholarship for ------- up in my history class and getting a bad grade, but today they sent me my check for it, $250. I'm still going to tell people I have no money though, life is much cheaper this way.

once i withdrew 200 from a atm, it never showed up on my account, this was 2 years ago i refuse to goto that gas station now, lol it sucks cuz its the only gas station close to my office, the rest are easily 2 miles away.

one of my buddies had this happen but his mistake carried 5 zeros-in the positive way, needless to say he didn't touch it because you can get in a ---- load of trouble at least thats what his mom told him, i still think he should of withdrew it all and make it look like it never happened :P

sad to say but they'll catch up to what happened. i deposited 1000. once and the bank added an extra 0 making it 10,000. i was happy for about 1 week then they fixed the problem.

Haha, a friend of mine tried to withdraw like $700 one day and the machine took a ---- and didn't give him his money. He went to a different machine and withdrew the money. A few days later he realized the first machine registered that he withdrew $700, but he never got it. He ended up getting escorted out of the bank by the police because they didn't want to believe him. I forget what he ended up doing, but he ended up ------- the bank over and they made a nice little mark on his credit report. That's fucked. :-\

last monday somebody robbed a local bank of america. he only left with $420 and the caught his ass later that day.

one time I deposited some money in my account, and a week or so later they deposited another 400 into my account, I was like what the ----? free money! It turned out the teller deposited 400 less than what I gave her. I am sure glad that the bank caught that error.

Oh and this was also at wells fargo, and the teller is a close friend... I still need to give her the guilt trip about it. :P

Oh and they'll catch it, cause at the end of the day they count the money and make sure everything is balanced, if not they try to see where something went wrong.

But it'd be nice if they just look it over and shrugg it, but chances are for almost 400, it might cost the teller his/her job, so they'll definitely look into it.

she was a managerial type, she was like doing override functions for other tellers, so im sure she'll catch it.

it will most likely be updated in the next couple days. banking websites are always behind on ----. i have things that i know come out on a certain day, and they don't show up for a day or two afterwards on my banks online checking website dealy. i'm pretty sure they'll fix it, and if they don't, if i were you, i'd call them. because sooner or later they will see it and ---- you over if you try and act like you have an extra 380 that you're spending here and there and then when they say hey, no no, that's not money you have, you'll be fucked in all the fees they feel fit to hit you with. :-\ i'd keep my eye on it in the next couple days and if there's no change, call your bank and tell them to fix it asap.

100% sure they will figure it out. Don't spend it cause your gonna have to give it back. Same thing happened to me. :'(

My dad went to the Atm to get cash one time during a thunderstorm. I think he wanted like 100$, well this thing kept spitting out twenties I think he came home with like 2 grand in twenties. But he took it back to the bank the next day because he was afraid they would come after him.

well the money may be gone, but on the bright side I found out that I've been getting underpaid by $.65/hr for the last three months, so that makes for a few extra hundred coming to me from work next payday.
