did i blow my motor?

HELP! tonight when i was driving my car home it started to die on me on the freeway. luckily it made it off of the exit and onto the road before it totally crapped out on me. right before it died, it tried flooring the gas to keep it alive long enough to get it off of the freeway, but the rpms just fell slowly until it just shitted and died. i noticed my car was sounding FUCKED UP during this time. my car sounded like it was running off of three cylinders, or like if you accidentally mix up your spark plug wires. i was then able to push start it, cuz my ignition wasn't working. but, after popping the clutch, i would floor the gas and the rpms would increase VERY slowly until about 4000 then decrease slowly until it died. keep in mind i never took my foot off of the gas during this process. i repeated this push start process like five times to get two miles to my place. anyways, what do you think this could be? blown motor? tranny? something else? HELP PLEASE - whatever details you need i will give, and thanks for reading this.

oh yeah, 90crx dx with d16z6 and si ecu. also, when i read the check engine light code on the ecu (i did get a CEL right before it died) it was one blink = O2 sensor. that was the only code.

yes yes, very much sounds like you spun a rod bearing, but you should have heard a loud sound like pans against a wall very repeditivly. if its not that the only thing i could think of is yes you lost power in a cylinder.

sounds like time for the basics...

do a compression check.

then take off the oil pan and see if there are any problems there.

report back.

shoot, sounds like a dead battery to me. When my alternator went, and my battery was finally empty, it would act like it was running on 2-3 cylinders, and would barley go, i had to push the accelerator in and out to keep it alive, but it would slowly die, had to push it home. Since your ignition didnt work, thats what it sounds like. I could push start my car, but then it would poo out. 89 crx si.

yeah remember to check your battery levels if you dont have those shitty sealed batteries. often times people neglect there battery and have to replace them every year..

how fast were u going when this happened and what rpm?

compression was about 30psi in all four cylinders, but i dont think i did the test right. i remembered to block the throttle all the way open, and took out all four plugs. i turned the crank counterclockwise a bunch of times. i didn't take off the oil pan, cuz it is now getting HOT AS HELL outside(i live in an apartment complex and dont have covered parking). i REALLY REALLY hope its something with the battery, but i just bought it like two months ago. also, i was doing about 60 mph on the freeway in fifth gear, so im guessing i was between 3000-4000 rpm. i dont really remember exactly what rpm i was at, i just know that i was driving normally and not racing because there are a lot of cops out for fourth of july.

Are you cranking it over by hand? Will the starter not spin the motor over? if so, is this something new or is this an older problem? Have you tried jump starting it or a new/different battery. You haven't said anything about the basic basics yet. What does the oil look like, is it full and clean. Internal engine damage usually mucks up the oil. Is the coolant full and clean, no signs of a blown head gasket? Are all the belts on the car? I had a Ford Escort towed in once with the same thing you are describing, turns out the alternator belt broke, got behind the timming belt cover and wraped itself around the crank causing the valve timming to jump about four or five teath, the car would run but not excelerate, and it would die at an idle. It took forever to figureout what was wrong because nobody thought that the two problems, the missing belt and the running problem could be related. Check the basics.

30psi wtf.

did your timing belt break?

it was my battery!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D!!!!!!
i went to autozone to have them test it and it was only putting out like 4 volts. i put in the new battery and my car is on the road again! the guy at autozone was telling me that i probably have some other electrical problems because brand new batteries don't die out after only two months. what should i check for? i dont have a stereo or any extra electric load. maybe re-ground my car?

also, my oil was full and clean, coolant was full and clean, my belts(including timing) look ok, and i think my compression gauge is full of ----. i was cranking it over by hand because it wouldn't crank with the ignition. after my starter crapped out on me, i got one from autozone that only works every other time... it just makes a loud click sound otherwise(bad solenoid?).
