diameter of charge pipes

does the diameter of the charge pipes have an affect on performance or does it all depend on the PSI your running? basically I have a 3inch intake on the throttle body or thereabouts and 1 inch outlet on the turbo so should i aim to make a charge pipe running from 1 inch gradually increasing to a 3 inch? or can i leave it 2 inch all the way through..... i think my exhaust gasses deserve a smooth ride,..... 8)

They do have an effect, but if you're running 5-10 psi, 2 inch pipe is good. I guess it depends on the turbo outlet. I'll be running 8 PSI with 2" mandrel bent piping. They make a nice adapter at Lowes / Home Dep. that fits the throttlebody perfect, and goes down to a 2 inch pipe if that helps. I think it's labeled as smaller than what it really is. This is because of the thickness of the rubber.

What about 3" running 7-10 psi, would that affect it?

Just like how Horse Power sells cars, but Torque wins races.
