Del Sol Not Sports Car...Anyone Know Why?
 

I can't remember the exact reason, but I know in the states the Del Sol is not considered a sports car... None the less to settle argument can someone give me the logic behind it? I think it is because the car has a civic chasis, and excluding the VTEC model comes with a rather pathetic motor?

Yeah, it probably even says Civic on the title. I am pretty sure mine says Civic CRX.

Honda is very confusing sometimes, in Japan they call it the CRX Del Sol. In the repair manual, the first generation del sol is referred to as a civic del sol.
Then the last del sol that was made was called a CRX Del Sol SiR (I think Honda just likes to abbreviate things).
Heh, I got into a stupid argument with a local ricer about it and I kept telling him a del sol is not a sports car - and he was telling me that it is because its a CRX chasis...
I know though that there is one specific difference that seperates my car from a sports car, I just can't recall it.

So, question about this....If Honda says that a del Sol is NOT a sports car, then why do I pay up the ass for insurance on mine??? Insurance companies say it IS a sports car. Id like to be able to tell them it's not a sports car...

Don't feel bad they consider my fiero a sports car since it is a two seater and it has a v-6 in the rear even though pontiac released it as a economy car. My insurance is pretty good considering all my speeding tickets ;D

Just be glad it isn’t as much as Leia’s... :( that is absolutely ridiculous! If you didn’t owe any money on that car, I would just put liability on that fucker and call it good. Insurance is to spendy these days.

But as far as the topic..
I honestly don’t consider any Civic a "Sports Car" or an Integra. To me, a Sports car is a RWD/AWD 2 seater (some 4), that hauls ass.

lol well according to jeffs opionion i guess my fiero is a sports car wohooooo lol :D but then again i always considered the fiero to be a sports car. ind suspension ,all disk brakes ,gas tank in the middle ,unibody frame ,wide and low no wonder corvette was afraid of it lol

my insurance company considers my 87 crx si a sports car, in the same class as a corvette z06. which is absolutley rediculas. my ------- crx NA is so goddamn slow its not even funny.

don't even get me started on what i would pay on my 69 ss396 big block chevelle... if it had insurance on it.

btw i pay almost 200 a month on my crx. for liability only.
i also have 3 speeding tickets... but thats all on my record. its ------- stupid, wasted money.

---- insurance... its a god damn rip off.... and the worst thing about it is thats its perfectly legal... like chris rock once said... "I give a company money in case ---- happens, now if ---- dont happen shouldnt I get my money back"? wich is so true... So i say if your not a clumsy ass driver and your car isnt worth that much... ---- it and make up a phony ass insurance card.... thats what my bro did... and he had to go to court 3 times and showed it to a judge as proof... and it was accepted. but if he crashes... thats his ass.... so his insurance now.. is not crashing... its a risk... but its like 1-800 collect... you can save a buck or two...

I want to turbo my del Sol---but Jeff and Adam won't let me. Then I'd like to call up my insurance company and be like "Hey bitch, now my CIVIC has 180 pounds of torque to the wheels, how do ya like that??? Yup, that's right, a dumb little blonde girl with a turbo---charge me more, I dare you!"

I should do that, it'd be good times! Really though, everyone should tell Jeff we need a del Sol Si turbo on Team Homemadeturbo! :)

Over here (Holland) if you have an other engine in your car than it is supposed to have, the insurance is no longer valid, that is if they find out.

Insurance Companies are a rip off. Some fag took a screw driver to my new cherry red paint job and to the keylocks. Not to mention my busted taillights, snapped antenna, and slashed tires. $1400 in damage. Insurance won't give me a penny of it...they want it fixed at their place and they want to keep my car for two weeks to do it. I could fix everything myself in a few days if they would just give me the money. Sucks...

Well i have been trying to convince my cousin in mexico to buy a CRX because he wants to build it up (there are no smog laws) so he can pretty much do as he wants. but the problem is that you cant import a CRX to mexico, because it is considered a Sports Car. Along with the Del Sol... Just because its a two seater......that fuckn suxxx....

Elissa, your motor smokes already. Like you need a turbo on your del sol. If you really dont want your motor to last, sure, go for it. Even if you had all the ---- to put it on your car with, you would still have to con your boyfriend or Jeff to put everything on. That can get spendy. Keep your car the way it is. Del Sols were not meant to go fast! They are chick cars. Chicks look good in them....dudes look gay in them. Nough Said!

The way I figure it, I'm not going to get a dime out of that leaking piece of ---- when I go to sell it anyway, so I might at well ruin the engine! It's only got 80,000 miles on it, barely broken in---it can handle a turbo!

BTW....Adam made ME pay for my last oil change. :( Who'll do it for free??? I'll flash for it ; )

I am also a Del Sol owner. I can tell you first hand that atleast in Arizona it is considered a sports car. The damn insurance on thing thing nearly costs me 300 bones a month. They consider it a sports car.. so im callin it a damn sports car.

oh and whats the point of turboing a del sol whats already blowing smoke. youd be better off just puttin in a new engine in at the same time as the turbo. my old del sol smoked too with 120k on it (mini me) it lit up big plumes of smoke on unsuspecting traffic behind me at lights... (bad rings) come to think about it my friends del sol is smoking too!

Mine doesn't smoke, Brett's just jealous HE doesn't have one. He he.
Besides, throwing a turbo on it would cause it to smoke, so what would be the difference? Jcushing, you should have turbo'd yours!
