that is a very common misconception... the reason you dont see sportbikes with a lot of miles like on cars is because 1. they are seasonal 2. they are toys 3. they are often wrecked and totalled at an early age 4. they aren't that fun to drive for long periods of time..

i have seen a completely stock f4i with 130k on it...

my cbr 900 has 51K on it, and I rape it everytime i ride it. like all machines, it's about maintenance.

amen... how often do you lube your chain? What kind of winter maintenance do you do? I have an 2006 600rr with like 3,000 miles and I am always paranoid that I am not doing enough. I check the chain every 500 miles and clean/lube it every 1500 miles or so

how many old bikes do you see still with the stock motor running just fine too. i bought a 82 yamaha 750 seca from my cousin a couple months ago and it likes to get raped. will probably need to do some up keep on the carb soon but it runs smooth and i rev it out whenever i can. as long as the bike runs good and isnt smoking or doing anything obviously wrong it should be just like buying a car.
go in smart and pick up yourself a good deal if it runs and rides good. mileage just means you will be getting a better deal. if not just say next and keep looking. pretty simple

If the bike has been poorly maintained and has had the ---- beat out of it, thats a lot of miles, based on the fact a young guy owned it and it has a cracked fairing its more than likely been beat on and dropped, go back and offer him $1500 hold onto it till spring and throw it on ebay than collect a profit.
your compairing two completely different designed bikes there. ya you will see crazy miles on a gold wing one thats what they were ment to do, all highway miles and cruzing at 1500rpm makes a motor last a long long time. a street bike on the other hand sees 15k on a daily basis and cruzes at 5 to 6 grand all the time. biggest thing I see on high mileage sport bikes is the motor losing compression and or smoking from the rings going bad. can't help it with those rpm s. and to the guys with 50 and 80k on a street bike ya it can and is done but take another bike same year and everthing but with 5 or 10k on it and you will notice how much of a difference there is in power. my bro inlaw has a 97 yzf 1000r (aka r1 a year before the title) there is a lot of work in the motor in this thing made 151whp, but it's got 21k on it and has been rode like is should be, thing is still freakin NUTS but honestly my 03 600rr will run almost dead even till 120 with him. it's just a matter of wearing out. bike made 151 whp after motor work, last summer it only made 135whp

my dad had an old cbr 600 f1 with like 30k on it, seemed to pull pretty good and ran great, Power will go down if you contstantly beat the ---- out of anything

i clean+lube my chain every 1500-2000, change the engine oil every 2K. I'm meticulous in the engine upkeep (at least on this bike), it literally only takes 2 revolutions on the starter, and it fires right up.

Sportbikes technology has grown EXPONENTIALLY over the last 10 years. If automotive technology had increased at the same rate we would all be driving electric cars by now.
You are also comparing a bike that has a DRY weight of 437lbs to a bike with a wet weight of 440lbs and also a 5spd vs. a 6spd. That doesn't even account for aerodynamic drag, weight distribution, rider weight or skill... So the fact that you can stay up with has less to do with bikes deteriorating and falling apart at the insanely high mileage of 20k and more to do with comparing apples and oranges. Plus the cbr600rr is a very capable performer. I know because I have one. That thing is SCARY fast.
The owner of thus f4i had over 130k as of two months ago:

I will agree with you that you don't see really high mileage bikes very often, though not because the machines aren't capable but because of the lack of practicality... I have a 06 with 3,000 miles on it. I love riding and ride every chance I get but in the NE but it just doesn't seem to ever happen to me
