well, a mod chip is gonna cost around 30 bucks.

also here are some hints. never close the tray with your hand. use the reset button to close it. when you wanna switch games, reset it, and take it out. also, dont play cd games. ps2's dont like cds. ive had three stop working completely from playing some stupid game called war of the monsters. also, puting labels on it can ---- with it to. just use felt pen.

huh? what the hell are u talkin about? im lookin for someone to do it for me? half the stuff you mentioned is basic? ive had my ps2 for like 5 years and the only problem i've had is the stupid ps2 trey cover like fell off... a little glu and slap the bitch back on and badda bam. any mod chip installers?

depends on the mod chip. there are some 7 wire chips out there (easiest) and some 10-12 wire ones... (I forget) anyhow, I would do my own but I don't think i'd risk someone elses' ps2 by doing it for them. :P My friend has blown up 2 of his PS2s chipping them (maybe he should stop doing it).

right now i'm using an unmodified ps2, along with a slide card and the swapmagic disks. I have yet to find a game I can't play with this. Whole thing costs $30 and you don't have to mod your ps2 at all. you can get this at www.modchipstore.com

there is some no solder chips out that sell for 30 bucks or so.Another out would be to buy a slide card and boot disc, basically you take the cover off the CD tray on your ps2 then use the boot disc to start the ps2. After its booted you use the slide card to move this lil thing that is holding the CD in and pop in the burned/import disc you wanna play. If you have a gameshark you already have a boot disc, just use a credit card and a paperclip as you slide card

kain you probabl had the first gen ps2, the 30001, those things are known break, but some work fine. It's usually the laser, this little thinga majigger, whatever.

Hmmm, maybe i'll buy a mod chip and chip my ps2, i used to do ps1's so it shouldn't be tooo much of a problem, only thing is they advertise ONLY 17 WIRES, god damn 17 wires. I just prefer not having to swap disc, call me lazy, or maybe i'll get those 'Game Enhancer' type things. :shruggs:

well i had everything accept the last generations. the first one i had, still works, but its fucked up and only plays CD games. the other one i had, some kid fucked it up by popping the CD out withought hitting reset, and the 3rd on i sold it mainly because the eject function just fucked, and some how messed up and the thing wouldn't recognize that it was being reset. i also got the mod chips where there where like 20+ connections. they where small as ----.

I have both a modded PS2 and modded Xbox.
PS2 is alright but i spend most of my time with the xbox.
Modding the PS2 was alot harder. 12 wire as aposed to just installing a Chip Header, or at most a 3 wire install on xobx if its a 1.6.

they have this new ---- out now, it's awesome... it costs $150 though :-X but you buy a package that includes a 120gb hard drive and a couple disks for your ps2. you put the original game in your ps2, it gets copied to the hd, and then you can play the game off the hd without even needing to burn a copy on dvd-rom. it can only hold about 40 games... but really, how many games do you play?? (at one given time)

I'm not just being a dick, but it would be worth your while to just buy an old used Xbox, especially a broken one on eBay because you are going to be changing it anyway. Look for one with a HD error message, you are junking the old drive anyway, who cares.

If you are a die-hard PS2 fan, then just do some research online and find someone who can solder.

cheating sucks, I hate playing a game and just uploading cheats, it defeats the purpose of the game, not the purpose of beating it, but the purpose of justifying you just spend $54 on a game :-\

I would love to have GT games but it isn't worth buying a system that is so hard to chip. On x-box you also have the ability to burn games to the HD.

why do u need a chip to own a system? ever hear bout wanting to own the system and the real game to help the companies continue making games for us? i only want the chip to play the japanese games... who wants to play xbox when u gotta hold a spaceship that weighs like 3 lbs n ----... ps2 controler is most user friendly and thats why xbox tried makin controlers that look like ps2 controlers and so did the computer...

yea gt sucked balls, i had it and traded my ps2 that game and a couple other games in on my xbox, shows you how impressed i was by ps2, pgr is a hell of a lot better than gt, alot more realistic imo

u guys are weird... jdm freak? im jus multi-cultrual... i'd like to see how the game was before us hick people tear it down so dumb people can understand the game better... and you guys say ---- the companies? without them you'd have no system... and a user friendly controler has a lot to do with how well you'll do with the game... if they were trying to ---- you why are they creating games that we anticipate. patiently wait for jus like GT4... doesn't come out til january but everyones been waitin for it since like last november... and all u care about is free games... if noone supports the companies sooner or later you'll have those same free games on ur system n thats it... you'll never get a new game because noone wanted to support the company and they can't afford to make a new one cuz your jus tryin to get it free... kinda how music went and how the music industry got weak when napster was out. people started gettin sue'd and the music industry was bitchin about it cuz everyone was gettin free music. why am i a moron cuz i try to support the companies that bring us games that we all wanna play?

omg...this tread just got highjacked why did you guys turn this into an xbox and ps2 war? they both have there good sides and bad sides. But xbox is a more powerful system compared to ps2 but ps2 has a much bigger game library.

After playing PGR 1 and 2. I got my PS2 and first game i got was GT3.

I was extreamly disapointed. PGR is the top racing game that I have played for realilisum, and for how a car handles in real life.

its not easy to do the tiny soldering so if you buy one premodded go to www.premods.com the DMS chip for the PS2 is good. my buddy got his from there and copied all his old games and broke even after he sold his orginal PS2 and orginal games on ebay.
