day job

Hi all. This is my first post here at HMT, (been lurking for about a year though). I've been thinking of a career change from designing the pages of a tuning magazine here in South Africa... to getting my hands dirty making filthy fast honda's. Anyway, cut to the chase, I'd like to know what some of you guys do for a living, and how many hours you put in a week, cos it feels like I'm the only one that has to go to work mon-fri 8-5 and there's not a hell of a lot I can do with a freakin' weekend. That's why I'd like to build cars full time.

i work in the ghetto. wake up at five in the morning to go to work and go home at 1 in the morning. For a few hours in between those times, I go to school. Madd sicc fun yo :'(

I would love to have a whole weekend to myself. Heck an 8-5 job would be great too.

My perspective on this, personally I will stick to cars as a hobby, not a career. Nothing against working on them for a living, it's just personal preference.

I work 7-4 as a draftman, with a land survey and engineering company, actually I'm starting there monday. Today I'm doing the same thing but for the government 7-3:30pm.

I try to work on my cars after work and on weekends, I also try to work on anyones car to learn different brands and models.

I had an offer put out to work for a new shop that might open here in Orlando Florida, installing bolt on parts, headers intakes and stuff like that, but they guy backed off on opening for a few more months.

I still told him that I would only do it after work and on the weekends because I'm not going to leave my good career for something that is just opening up and for per work pay, not per hour.

I would not mind learning how to weld and fabricate some things. I have been looking at taking some classes.

Looks like you already have a cool job working for a magazine. Try and get some training and a good offer before leaving your job.

I work 7am-3pm as a programmer. Sometimes I have to work from say 7am-10pm and lots on weekends to meet deadlines. I'm looking to getting out of the computer field in the next 18 months or so.
