I feel the same way.

For the most part most states are enacting Castle Doctrine laws, which allow you to do just that.

Look up your state's laws and find out if they have them.

The door being locked or unlocked has nothing to do with anything. From the sounds of the article, there was no struggle, no weapon, no life threatening event that could have justified the shooting so the homeowner probably will face charges, depending on his state laws. It's ------- bullshit. I say if someone eneters your house without your permission, that's reason enough to blast them. Why do criminals have rights? They should lose all rights when the chose to violate mine and break the law.

So glad we live in a state that honors the castle doctrine laws.

Well, that's not what I was told in CCW class. Unless you fear for your life(and a jury believes you), you can't use deadly force.

How long ago did you take your CCW class?

The laws have changed just recently.. (within the last 6 months to year)...

They conclude that if someone breaks into your house and acts threatening... (They could so much as say shut the ---- up or even look at you wrong) you have the right to shoot them. The State Attorney now has the duty of prosecuting you, and proving that you murdered the person. Not the other way around of you proving you killed this person in self defense. And if on the slim chance they actually do bring you to court... if you're able to prove your innocence... there is a new law that protects you from civil liability from the person's family or loved ones.

Hmmm...I didn't know that. I took the class about 5 years ago so I guess laws could have changed since then. :1

The thing is, it's hard to prove whether your life was endangered or not.

If they have a weapon, it'll probably be an easy case that is ruled in your favor. A lot of the scum that will break into your house, is not the type of person that will be missed by society. You shoot them, kill them, and say they were threatening you, easy case (especially if they have a weapon). Only time it would be a problem if it was a person that was in a family with a lot of money that could hire a lawyer to prove they didn't threaten you, and that's a rare case.

Someone breaks into my living area, I'll shoot them in the leg or arm. They pull out a weapon? BOOOM!!! headshot. It's something I'd risk.

I was told "wounding" them is a bad idea. They can live to sue you and win in court because if you use your weapon in fear of your life, you don't stop to think "Ok, I'm just going to shoot him in the arm so he might not be able to hurt me". When you fear for your life you think "OMG ---- ---- **** KILL KILL KILL ---- ---- **** OMG!!" They say shoot to kill.
