1G trannies especially 1ga suck hooker slit. Auto is even worse. They did a bit better with the 2G especially the FWD turbo, but still notchy as ---- and the hydraulic clutch system is horrid. Fucked master and slave cylinders like nothing lol. I can only imagine ------- with electronics for a transmission and definitely don't envy you.

I must be crazy too because I'm going to look at a 95 Talon TSi tommorow that is having issues. Here comes one of the most frustrating weekends of my life taking apart Mitsu engineers complete ridiculousness. I swear some of the ---- looks like they made it up as they went rofl. Oh well, AWD 2Gs' kick *** when they've been sorted well and swapped correctly. There's a good chance this one is starting to walk. Yippie!

Mistu doesnt hire engineers. They employ monkees with the ability to draw inside the lines.

There's no such thing as a good dsm tranny. They all suck. And ill be damned if ill ever rebuild another one. Id rather have a kseries....oh wait I do lol.

Dsm trannys were designed for the early lancer/cyborg, the heavyest of which tipped the scales at 2400lbs. Now lets see, the LIGHTEST dsm weighs what like 2850 1g fwd laser right? Now in a car like the mirage/summit/colt reliability wouldnt be an issue. However, when you start adding serious power to a HEAVY chassis (awd 2gs are worse) ---- starts to break. The tranny isnt the problem. The weight of the car is.
On my last 1g, I STRIPPED THE TEETH from third gear. No I dont mean 3rd grinded, I physically stripped the teeth, counter and main. The center diff is a joke, and dont even get me started on the transfer case.

You dont see honda with these problems do you? The heaviest integra 4door is lighter than the lightest dsm. Yet if you put the gearsets side by side, the physical size is similar, as well as the final drive. Food for thought.

+1 ive known all that for years(after a good talking with the only trusted dsm tranny builder in my area).I found corrosion on the bottom of the tcu and cleaned it off and it started shifting fine again.I'll drive it tonite and if it doesnt come back i think i found my problem.I refuse to ever work on a 2g awd tranny job again unless its def worth my while.

Hell yeah that makes sense. Never really thought about it like that. I always just questioned the strength of the internals and didn't fully think about the drivetrain as a whole.

I must have had good luck with mine. My 1st 2G tranny I cracked going over a bump at like 70 so that was my fault. The 2nd one is from a 98 GS-T and it's actually really good. It still is notchy though and compared to a B16 or M3 tranny it's ----.

However, today I just bought a 95 TSi AWD ($1500 bitches and clean as ---- especially the interior) and a swear to you it has the smoothest most easy shifting transmission I have ever felt in a DSM if not damn near any car I've ever driven. It isn't notchy at all and it doesn't make any noise or even a tiny grind in any gear. It's precise and has zero slop below 6k rpm. I haven't tried high rpm or NLTS with it yet though and I'm sure I'll start to see some shitiness when I do. I hear and have experienced a little that DSM trannys shift like *** at any kind of high rpms. The new TSi only has 102k on it though so maybe it just hasn't reached it's full suck potential yet.

Well i got a tranny scanner from a guy at a tranny shop and we drove the car around. All the solenoids and the computer were fine its a tranny clutch. It was noticing a bad 2-3rd shift and loss of pressure.Well i guess i'm out of dsms again....

I would be suspect the valve body. If you have good pressure in all the other gears, and no other problems, and the torque converter doesnt feel like its "slipping" thats where id look.
