CRX/y8 questions

well ive seemed to have found a great deal on a car, its a black crx s1 with a built y8, the kid im buying it from doesnt know jack about it. All i know is the turbo is a turbonetics bb, 450 injectors, a 6 puck clutch, and nothing else. it has a chipped p28 ecu with launch control, anti-wheelhop bars, and skank 2 springs. it also comes with some kind of gay ass bodykit that hes giving me that will get sold. he wants to trade for my bone stock 86 rx7 sport straight across, hes 17 and im guessing daddy had the motor built. I drove the car and its fun to say the least, running 10 psi there is mad dirty third action. Im hopeing to get some pointers on what to look for on the car, im going to be daily driving it until the end of summer so i need it to be half way reliable. here are some pics.

Does it purge coolant into the catchcan whenever you hit boost? If not, it's good to go.

However, since that OBD1-converted Y8 distributor is obviously centered in that picture, I have $5 that says you are very much not good to go.

ill def check the collant deal tomarrow, it boostd fine when i drove it and had plenty of power. what do you mean by a "centered" y8 dizzy? and how should it be/ or how can it be made right?

Re: CRX/y8 questions

No OBD1-converted Y8 is going to be running the correct ignition timing with the distributor centered since the Y8 cam was cut at a different index. Base ignition timing is probably wrong. Which means that someone who didn't know Y8s set up the chipped ECU. Which means the ignition maps are probably all wrong.

Y8's like less ignition timing than any other D-series. You feed them too much and it usually costs the headgasket or causes overheating issues, but the whole damn thing can come apart as well.

ill give the guy who built it a call tomarrow, whats the best way that this can be corrected? can i just swap to a non-centered obd1 dizzy?

Re: CRX/y8 questions

It's going to be hard to set Y8 ignition timing on what is most likely a Z6 basemap.

white rice, homey, why don't you read a couple thousand posts in the Engine Management forum and them come back with specific Q's?
