CRX rear disk swap
A buddy of mine has a wrecked 90' Integra Ls in his yard, I recently pulled the rear disk brake assembly with the intension of putting on them on my 91 CRX Hf. Im positive that I have everything needed, trailing arm, e-brake line, etc.
I haven't put them on, so I dont know what to expect as far as braking respons. One thing I am concerned about though, is will I need the Integra Master Cylinder? or any other brake fluid delivery component from the Integra, in order to make this swap a complete success. If anybody has some info on this, please share. The City keeps nagging my friend to get the car out of his yard, so I need to know before its too late. http://tjshondas.20m.com/rrdisc/t_arm.jpg |

Re:CRX rear disk swap
Ask your buddy what size the master cyl is. it should be stamped somewhere on the metal.
my 88 CRX Si has a 13/16 the 90 Si I got parts from had a 15/16. you might also need the soft part of the brake lines. check out my webpage for details on a rear disk swap. |
Re:CRX rear disk swap
oh and was it an ABS car? if it was you cant use the master cyl or the prop valve. so youll have to find another teg to tear a-part.
|
Re:CRX rear disk swap
I'm not sure it was an ABS model, all I know is that its a 90' LS. I'll look into the map lights/rear view mirror.
|
Re:CRX rear disk swap
Well it's not an ABS model. I think I will remove the master cylinder and anything else that might be useful, just to be safe. Oh and Onyx, sorry guy but the maplights/mirror are already gone :-\

Re:CRX rear disk swap
i did integ rear disc on my 89 crx si. if you dont take the master cyl and prop. valve your brake pedal will fade real bad. overall my opinion on it is leave your brakes alone if theres nothing wrong with them, its not worth the hassle and busted knuckles. also the ebrake cables are way to long and you have to kinda stuff them up under the gas tank or however way you want to rig it. have lots of wire ties handy.
|
Re:CRX rear disk swap
would it be easier to use the e brake cables from a 90-91 civic si since they arent as long as the integra and put that on the CRX?
|
Re:CRX rear disk swap
i got cables from a 90 crx si.
|
Re:CRX rear disk swap
No thanks, I'll rig my cables thank you :P
unless you want to sell them super cheap. By the way do the e-brake cables differ from model to model? I havent taken the time to look, but they should be the same right? |
Re:CRX rear disk swap
88-89 are same and 90-91 are same (Si Models)
but if u mean teg LS/GS/RS they should all be the same as long as they all have read disks. |
Re:CRX rear disk swap
Okay what I ment to say was, Hf/Dx/Si e-brake lines are the same??
|
Re:CRX rear disk swap
i think it depends on drums, all drums are the same all disks are the same (90-91 Si ONLY had disks.)
|
Re:CRX rear disk swap
Interesting, I guess the only way I'll know is by looking.
What does the prop valve look like? |
Re:CRX rear disk swap
they look EXACTLY the same. But w/ different numbers stamped on them.
Some people say the prop valve makes NO difference as it doesnt bias front/rear. They say it seperates the fluid diagnal. |
Re:CRX rear disk swap
I just did this swap you will need a e-brake cable from a 90-91 crx, ot the teg cable..the cable you hae right now wont work for disks Unless you try to lengthen the cables some how to match up to the caliper on the disks ;)

Re:CRX rear disk swap
what is your impression of the brakes?
Do you get alot of brake pedal travel? |
Re:CRX rear disk swap
also what did he completely change, MC,. booster, prop valve? anything?
|
Re:CRX rear disk swap
Yeah we want to know, hopefully this weekend I'll throw them on.
|
Re:CRX rear disk swap
are u doing the entire trailing arm?
let me know how yours goes. im going to mine while she's sleepin for the winter. |
Re:CRX rear disk swap
Yes I'm doing the whole trailing arm, and was thinking of documenting it with pics and all.
|
Re:CRX rear disk swap
document it and I can add it to my website for ya.. and then later I can add my experiences with mine.
|
Re:CRX rear disk swap
it wasnt that bad all you need is the spindle arm (the arm that the disk is mounted on), the lower control arm (the arm hooked to the bottom of the spindle arm, a 90-91 crx e-brake cable, and the shocks since there differant..between 88-89 and 90-91, in a daily driving I really didn't feel that big of a differance, but in auto crossing it seems to make quite a differance. as far as brakes, but thats also in a si I think that the hf and dx have smaller master cylinders..

Re:CRX rear disk swap
lol theres a few things on my car i actually like doing right and one of them is brakes.. i would not want a patchwork, zip tie, jbweld brake job on my car.
if those let loose its bye bye turbo setup, engine, car and maybe your life. you might wanna think about that. |
Re:CRX rear disk swap
My master cylinder is a 13/16, so I decided to pull the one of the Integra 15/16. I then matched them up and noticed that the mounting points are different, so am I ---- out of luck for using it? or is there another way around this.

Re:CRX rear disk swap
i think you need the brake booster also and then it fits
|
Re:CRX rear disk swap
a 90 - 91 si has a 15.16 that fits. I'll actually double check the mounting tonight when i get home.
|
Re:CRX rear disk swap
Please do.
That ------- brake booster comes off from the inside the car, right? seems like to much of a hassel, I'll just buy an Si master cylinder, thats if it mounts equaly :P |
Re:CRX rear disk swap
ya.. it has screws that go through the firewall into the pass compartment and nuts attach there.
you can prolly reach it though from under the steering area. but all this trouble for used item when a new one isn;'t that much? |

1990 Crx Si Looks like they are a direct swap between 88-91. 4g's Master Cylinder.. woohoo no more low brake pedal! What condition are your trailing arms in? Anyone know what I should look for to identify bad bearings and/or bushings?? |
Re:CRX rear disk swap
Excellent, looks like I'll be hunting for an Si master cylinder pretty soon.
What trailing arms do you speek of exactly? the CRX or the Integra? cause both of them look pretty good to me, however the bushings are looking a little rough (expected) |
Re:CRX rear disk swap
ya i've got 90 si trailing arms. Im just wondering if I should bother changing the wheel bearing or anything like that.
