Re: Crank scrapers?
The last way i would want to try to gain horsepower is by stripping my crank of oil. I'd rather have extra oil on there to make sure the bearings are properly lubricated, than not have enough. Doesnt seem practical or worth the risk.

Re: Crank scrapers?
I've seen them used in some high horsepower NA applications. But the scraper usually has a teflon edge and is usually not bolted to the mains like in those pictures.
Something that close to the crank better be high quality and well made, if it hits your crank then it could be all over. I'll see if I can find some more info on these. |

Re: Crank scrapers?
not hype, less foaming of the oil from being whipped around...........
Proven 10-15 hp on a BBC |
Re: Crank scrapers?
but the splashing of the oil on the underside of the piston, is the taken away?
|
Re: Crank scrapers?
enough will still be splashed around as it oozes out from the bearings.........

Re: Crank scrapers?
Agreed w/ the bone, I was going to try to make some because they DO work. I was also going to have my welding buddy (since I cant) take a spare oil pan, cut the sump area, enlarge it (to 4.5-5qt capacity), baffle it, and do a crank scraper. I figure its a spare pan, and more oil capacity means cooler oil, so Im trying to talk him into helping me with it. Ive searched before for scrapes and never found one (for honda).
