Default conversion programs? (freeware!)

Wondering if you guys could point me in the right direction, I'm looking for a program that will let me convert AVI,Mpeg,Dvix ect into a DVD,vcd or svcd file so i can put them on DVD's. I've tried Diko but i keep getting AVS errors and can't fix them. So if you know of or use a good conversion software let me know.
