Considering trade, Looking for the expert opinion.
Well, I'm considering trading my 92 civic hatch for a 90 4runner. I have never owned a truck before but this 4runner is totally gorgeous.
I will rundown a list of what my car has and what the 4runner has and then you can compare and give me the expert opinion. Personally I'm pretty set on getting this beast. But I just figured I would check with everyone on here before doing this. My car: 92 Honda civic hb white on blue interior History: got from the original owner who had lived on capitol hill for 5 years. there was a lot of body damage! Body damage is half fixed and the guy with the 4runner doesn't seem to care much. Mods: all mods have been done within the past 6 months. D15B vtec with low miles z6 tranny (3rd grinds) T3 42/48 Drag bar and plate intercooler 2" charge piping to intercooler and 2.5 from intercooler to throttle body Nice manifold 2.5" downpipe and 3" all the way back with a 3" catalytic converter and a 3" in out magnaflow tuner toys oil lines function7 fittings greddy type s bov ultra plug wires chipped ECU running Uberdata and is setup for datalogging H frame brace omnipower coil-overs rear disk conversion LS webs with nice tires amber corners integra leather seats type r shift knob expensive alpine head unit alpine component speakers VDO boost, oil pressure oh yeah, and I just had a really expensive alarm installed with remote start and a built in turbo timer. and a bunch of other misc stuff. Essentially my car is running great and is completely healthy but the body looks bad, just a bunch of little dings here and there and some damage on the rear quarter panel. I took the 4runner guy for a ride and he was holding onto the door panel pretty hard ;D I guess I built it right. it never runs lean and is just a little rich on start up. I could understand why he was holding onto my door so hard when he took me for a ride in the 4runner...that thing is SLOWWWWWWW. but I bet it can take the trails pretty good. the 4runner: Black on grey interior. 4 door! (great for my daughter) history: he got it from the original owner. Mods: Newer v6 engine with 30xxx miles on it (supposedley this one didn't suffer from the exhaust valve problem along with that nasty head gasket problem as well.) brand new 33"s with some decent looking rims. these tires really give it a mean stance.the rims have an offset that makes the tires poke out a good 5 inches from the body. K&N air filter... some little body add ons Bull Guard (looks totally sick) foglights completely blacked out windows 5 speed! some nice sounding tunes by a this years kenwood. roof rack! the body has its share of little dings and that kind of stuff, but it isin't anything serious and its something I could live with for another 10 years. No rust! I guess now that I have run down the list he doesn't really have much in modifications...but his car is worth like 3 times mine in KBB (not that that means ----) Lets hear it! |

.. sounds nice... it depends on the application. If you're looking for a 4 runner that sounds like a great trade... and in the end if you don't like it, sell it and buy another civic.

That def sounds like a good deal.Civics are dime a dozen so even if you change your mind later you can sell it and build a duplicate Civic with money left to burn.Buy some 4:88 gears for the 4Runner as that will help with the power/speed situation.

pics :D
sounds alright but i wouldn't say that it is worth 3 times your car. But it does sound like your car is in shitty shape though :P I would try and get a few hundred from him on the trade, just because you can. In my opinion, you car is worth more than his. Then again I live in SoCal, so where ever you live the value may differ. Just did a quick ebay search 2k is average, but those are with original motors and rust free. One sold for 500 cause of the head gasket problem. |
Re: Considering trade, Looking for the expert opinion.
toyota trucks hold a very high value. I helped a buddy of mine put a lift on his truck...and :S
guess its a toyota thing. :-\ I have a thing for older "SUV" off road toys. Heres his truck. I dont remeber everything we did to it (a little over a year ago now) but this was a bitch and a half project. We kept running into dumbshit like frozen bolts, messing up bushings, the camber washers...all of that little ---- kept putting us behind. anyways here was his toyota. i think it was a 5" pro-comp lift with 32's. this truck would go through anything we tried to put it through. -and kevin, it did make it through that trail that everyone talks about on western extension. ;) http://www.pix8.net/pro/pic.php?u=2375Jb6j6&i=675502 http://www.pix8.net/pro/pic.php?u=2375Jb6j6&i=675503 http://www.pix8.net/pro/pic.php?u=2375Jb6j6&i=675504 |

Actually I did read the whole thing, but I'm not a truck or SUV guy, so I would never do it. I rather sell the civic and buy some bigger car than a truck. You can probably sell it for more to a local riceboy, and then get you something nicer. I don't know, that's just my opinion. |

All depends what you want to do with the 4 Runner......trails ? Daily Driver ? I have a T100 basically with the same 3.0 litre. Runs good...no problems. Downside is i get about 16-17mpg with 31's. I like it at times but at other times i like the car. I like the truck for the winter. The 4 Runner maybe more reliable in the long run.
