kinda cool. I wonder if it affects the strength of the rod though? Don't the rods get some strength from having their surface compressed by being shotpeened?

Wow all that work and you save a oz and probably weaken the rod.

The area where he removed the weight is like the last place it would fail so its pretty safe. I bet they did shot peen the rod after the machining though.

if they shot peen or polish it up a bit itll be fine. Never ever seen a rod fail where they took material from
