Ok someone asked me to take a look at their computer as it wasn't working. I say no problem since it's usually something simple. Try to cut it on notta. Doesn't come on at all. So my first thought is to check the plug, surge protector, and power cable. All checked/swapped and still nothing. So next thought is it's the power supply.

I pull out the internals and swap the mother board over to my PC case. When I flip the main breaker switch on the back of my power supply on the CPU fan kicks on and it starts beeping, but doesn't boot/nothing comes on monitor.

I can't figure out what it would be. I put my stuff back in and checked the other components and everything else worked fine except one stick of ram. It made my computer constantly reboot when that one stick was plugged in, but the other three work fine. Any ideas?

corrupt bios or even a dead mobo battery will do this. are all the mobo leds/switches plugged into the main header? i had that problem with my old case, the leads were short and if i was inside pokin around to reset bios from a buggy overclock it would wiggle one of the wires loose and not boot. it's possible they were poking around with jumpers on the motherboard, or even fried the mobo itself

Damn I hope not...kinda. Thing is if it's messed up I probably get to rape it. The cpu will fit my mobo, I have the 64 bit single core of the same processor. This thing was a BITCH to work on. It was so crowded and cramped in there.

Count the beeps. In the manual for the motherboard you should be able to find error codes for them.

are you getting the bios 'okay to load' single beep, or multiple beeps? being that it's a manufacturers board (hp, dell, etc) i don't know if you can even access bios or the stages of death beeps (hp is great for that)

Are you saying it boots fine with all but one stick of ram?

I skimmed over it and don't feel like trying to figure out what you are saying, but if that's your case...

Have you tried it with your psu without that one stick of ram?

different ram speeds with the higher in the first slot caused me the same issue now that i am sober and reading the thead again. your core ram speed and latency play a big role in whether or not ram is compatible in certain systems, my asus mobo's are rock solid on everything, but the ecs and msi boards i've had spit out ram like a negro with a bucket of watermelon seeds

asus has a bit of a solid reputation on their boards, mainly the 12 out of 10 stars their topend boards get, balance out the lower end ones that fail at OCing more than kiddy steps and lack many good OC functions, or have narrow 1-3 option ranges for voltages
