computer nerds *help needed*

Is there a way I can look at my digital camera from another copmuter over the internet??

I have a digital camera at one location, but I want to be able to pull it up when I am at college. I know the PC must be on, but how can I go about it??

thanks.

Free would also be good.

i think there is a program called VSM or something like that. But both computers need to have it and well obviously both need to be online.

Re:computer nerds *help needed*

well both are on a broadband connection, so they are always on. I would just leave it on when I leave home.

yeah that VSM or whatever thing woud work, except if your ip is dynamic you would have to keep getting the new one.

well, its gonna cost you monbey. plus, if your at college, the servers and firewalls dont really like outside connections. just take the memory card out and put it in your pocket

You can do it with a VPN. ;)

YOu can also setup your one computer to allow an outside connection for you to go in and use it but it's really not safe because then everyone can get up in there.

I still don't quite understand exactly what you're trying to do here. You want to hook up your digicam at home and be able to see the images through it like using it as a webcam? or do you just want to access the pictures on it currently?

Re:computer nerds *help needed*

all vnc does is allow you to remote controle to a desktop. no file transfers i dont think.

just make an ftp server you noob.

PureCRXtasy 01-13-2005 11:29 AM

Re:computer nerds *help needed*

ultravnc and the latest dev version of tightvnc do file transfers, but depending on exactly what he is wanting to accomplish with this, there might be a better way to go.

Does your computer make a virtal drive when you plug the camera in?

If so...uhhh FTP? or would that be too easy?

Re:computer nerds *help needed*

Yeah your probley not gonna be able to access the pictures if they are just on your camera. I know my camera shuts itself of after being idle for like 30 seconds or something, besides even if it didn't that ---- would run out of batteries in know time. Just import them to your computer then use FTP.

I've done something similar before..

I used Remote Desktop Connection.. yes its crap.. but thats besides the point.

Make a password for it, check your IP (If you need help to do that PM me, its not hard but im too lazy to type it out), write it down and at work or wherever just connect, camera will work.
