Computer help: Computer wont reboot
Updated
I finally took it to a place and it turned out to be a busted 3D card. |
Re: Computer help: Computer wont reboot
To get any decent answers, you're going to have to provide way more info. To start, what kind of computer (desktop, laptop) is it.. what brand/model and what OS are you running?
|
Re: Computer help: Computer wont reboot
Pull out the plug when you're done ;)
PureCRXtasy is right, need more info. |
Re: Computer help: Computer wont reboot
your computer is fried. if your computer comes on and only the fans and ---- come on, then your pc is fried my friend.

Re: Computer help: Computer wont reboot

Re: Computer help: Computer wont reboot

|
Re: Computer help: Computer wont reboot
did you forget to turn on your monitor until the last time?
|
Re: Computer help: Computer wont reboot
i think i have that same computer.. HP 660mhz (hella gangster in year 2000 O0)
for my old one (that one), its weird.. if somethin is wrong with it, you can leave it off for an hour or 2, then turn it on and it works perfectly fine - must be a hewlett packard thing i guess |
Re: Computer help: Computer wont reboot
or your computer is just over heating?? lol.sometimes could be a faulty mother board.

Re: Computer help: Computer wont reboot
So ------ aggravating... it happened again. The comp was working for weeks since last time. 2 days ago I "restarted" it (start/restart) and it powered down and never came back on. Pisses me off...
Once again it powers on but doesnt boot up. black screen, no lights on keyboard etc.. Ive opened it up and looked at everythign and it LOOKS ok inside, nothing loose or burnt. Last few times this happened it just magically came back on. Hopefully that happenes again... Im stuck using this old ass 133Mhz laptop :'( |
Re: Computer help: Computer wont reboot
Ok i heard this problem before but it with my Imac. My ---- use to come on and then it turns off like it was overheating or something. now it doesnt come on at all and it makes this blinking noise. I found out the my imac flyback transformer was bad. (its what connected to the back of the montior to the system that turns on your monitor) its a common prob with those macs.
I know you dont have a mac but it might be a similar prob :-\ |
Re: Computer help: Computer wont reboot
could be a power supply. bad motherboard, or manythings.

probobly a powersupply problem. this could be a few things. try taking EVERYTHING out (if u know what you're doing), boot w/ just the video card, cpu and ONE stick of ram. does ---- show up on the monitor? btw.. do this right after it "stops" working. if it POSTS (you see the first screen where it counts the mem) than one of the components is fried. start re-installing the components you removed until it stops, then, get a new component. you dont have to unscrew the hard drive / cd rom, just unplug (BOTH power and data cables) |
Re: Computer help: Computer wont reboot
I just tried the power button and same thing.
Im gonna start pulling cards out like mentioned above. Im FAIRLY computer savvy so im not scared to take things out and put them back. Famous last words... lol |
Re: Computer help: Computer wont reboot
Beat the ---- out of it. Works like a charm. I've held my computer at gun point before. I had it spitting diodes and transistors out of it's hard drive. Mother fucker learned not to ---- with me. >:D

Re: Computer help: Computer wont reboot
Hard drive is on the way out. Smack it a few times at boot it will work. I have an old old Compaq that doesnt like to boot every now and then. Well more like every single time you fire it up. Smack the HD and wha-lah she kicks right on. Been like this for almost a year now lol.

Re: Computer help: Computer wont reboot
dont smack your hard drive. thats a good way to actually kill sectors on your drive. infact one of my old drived was like this, and it was giving me a hard time, so i smacked it. it would boot into windows, but had bad sectors. i smacked it again to get rid of that, it wouldnt boot to windows, only dos. i smacked it again, then that killed it.
i know for a fact it has nothing to do with the hard drive. im almost positive its a component on your motherboard, or is something else. my main guess is that its a bad mother board ( if you say that it refuses to simply come on ) or is simply a power supply issue. |
Re: Computer help: Computer wont reboot
Ok, i pulled the HD out and plugged in a spare i had lying around. Hit the power switch and this time the HD light DID come on. I tried it with 2 different HD's and got the HD light to come on. Put the stock HD in and got no light...
I just tried a 3rd HD that i kno has win98 and boots up on my kids comp, the yellow light turned on but it didnt boot up. I did smack the HD around a bit in my frustrations... oops i hope that wasnt the straw that broke the HD's back. :( I need to find out for sure if it is the HD, if so I just need it to come on at least once so i can back up all my important stuff on ZIP disk. |
Re: Computer help: Computer wont reboot
so you plugged in the HD w/ win98, the computer turned on, and you saw the POST screen?
did it say any errors when not booting up or just stop? |
Re: Computer help: Computer wont reboot
No, still no POST screen on anything ive tried so far, no POST beeps either. :(
Hopefully Thursday ill be able to start plucking cards out and trying that method. |
