For the computer geeks: 48 TB home media server

Check out this guy's build, I'm ------- jealous :7 That's about $10,000 in drives alone, not even including any of the other components. My next setup will be a 5 TB array, I can't even imagine having 48 TB.

Figuring an average filesize of 8 GB for a 1080p movie, he could hold 6000 of them. That many HD movies haven't even been released :o

Just saw this, pretty sweet.

I'm going to start out with one or two 1tb drives on my next build, and make sure it has SATA ports for 4 more...

Thanks to that tracker I have all but 4gb used on my 750gb of drive space, and have another 100gb I need to move over from another computer. Good ol' nova is sending me a 250gb drive and pci/ide which should hold me over at least until I can build a new one.

I backed up my pron across a few dvds and am still low on space :( Damn HD

We'd NEVAR need 48tb...until super high-def 3k-4k video becomes mainstream.

If 4k became mainstream 48tb would'nt hold more than a couple movies lol. That is pretty badass, I want to know what kind of array he's running though, Im still debating whether I want to go raid 10 or not...

Read the link to his thread, he gives all relevant info. He's running a RAID6 array.
