Computer geek needed

When I do ctrl-alt-del sometimes my cpu is running at 100%, and I don't know why. I have my bittorrent app running and firefox and thats about it, shouldn't be doing it because of that. I also turned off hard drive indexing, as that was a problem in the past. What the ---- could be doing this? I hate the fact that there's something going on that I don't know about. And I have no viruses or trojans with Norton running.

Re:Computer geek needed

I'd guess Adware/Spyware. Download these programs and run them:

HiJackThis

Ad-Aware

Spybot - Search & Destroy

My computer locked up hardcore because of this once, ran these three programs, now run them regularly and I have no problems 8)

Done all of those ecxept Hijack this. I'm almost sure it's not spyware as I keep track off all the processes that are running on my comp but what the hell, I'll give it a shot.

Re:Computer geek needed

What proccesses should be running in the background. My computer was running great then all of a sudden I started getting pop ups. I've ran ad aware and webroot spysweeper which is a program I bought. But I still get pop ups once in a while, but I used to ave none. Also How do I see what porgrams start when I turn on my computer. I know there is a way to disable all the ---- I don't need.

start>run>msconfig>startup even if you uncheck some of them will automatically startup again, spyware is ------- gay and the bastards who invented it should be hung by there testicles

My users have learned not to ---- their computers up cause they know how I fix them. Cant wait, getting ready to put all the computers on XP with SP2. Should be fun half of them are 2000 Pro others are non SP2 XP pros(about 25 total). And Iam currently setting up our servers with Sever Enterprise 2003. Fun Fun!

i find it easier to just delete all the partitions during the install and it redoes the partitions and formatting for you.

Re:Computer geek needed

In the past month and a half, I had to reformat every hard drive in our lab (28 computers) and install Windows XP SP2 with Microsoft office and others. Thank goodness for me the motherboards/processors were the same on about 20 of the computers, Norton Ghost is awesome :D

I also had to re-network the room, Cat6e. 14 jacks, fun stuff. Still waiting for my punchboard to set it up though >:(, so I have the Cat6e and cat5 all up in the roof.. looks purty :-\

Re:Computer geek needed

---- i dont think any of our computers are the same they are all a little different. half are dells of every model you can think of and the others are system max's <--- worst computers ever built. now i either build them or buy dell servers, whichever is cheaper. sometimes dell's are cheaper than what i can build. i buy the servers since they use standard powersupplies and have good ventilation. they are missing soundcards but my users dont need sound and if they complain they can buy their own god damn soundcards, these computers are for work not for wacking off to porn. hard to believe how many users look at porn. they think i cant track that ----, wrong again.

Re:Computer geek needed

hahaha yeah I hear ya

We ended up buying in bulk, so we got 20 motherboards/20procesors/40ramsticks/etc etc, so we got everything at a lower rate. Kind of nice actually, just ghost the hard drives instead of having to do other crap. All of ours has sound cards but one, and only one set of speakers, and the kid with the speakers blasts it all the time.. gets on my nerves.

biggmike 01-04-2005 09:24 PM

Re:Computer geek needed

just uninstall the soundcard driver and conviently not have time to fix the computer.

HondaTuner 01-04-2005 09:37 PM

Re:Computer geek needed

Well, I did do that, but then he gave the speakers to his buddy next to him so he blasts them. I'm thinking about just removing all the sound cards, screw 'em lol

Also, You can uncheck all of them under the startup tab.

I use this site when i reformat. Read up on the programs cuz you might turn off one you might need on. I have mine set up as Power User. http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm
