Computer EMS question

I just realized I have an old comp in our loft just takin up space. I was wondering how do you hook it up to your ECU for tuning? I see you guys all use laptops, but I have a ------ desktop, but can be easily moved to the garage, and with my chipped ECU now it would be nice to mess with it :P

Re:Computer EMS question

You hook it up the same way as you do a laptop. You just need to have the datalogging port on your ecu.

I remember he used to add that option at an extra price, but I think he might be doing it on all his ecus now. I'm sure he'd be able to tell ya.

aren't you supposed to use the datalogging feature while driving or on a dyno? you could probly datalog how your car is idleing and when you rev but i think it would be it. but i might be wrong so don't take my work for it

you're prolly right, but cant you still do some toher stuff tho without moving, like programming?

Re:Computer EMS question

you can program chips with out hooking up to the ecu, but i guess that would be pretty conveniant to have you burner in the garage so you don't have to go inside everytime.

Re:Computer EMS question

ummmm, there's a lot to explain. yes, you have a 4 pin header in your ecu for data logging, data logging is not tuning/programming, it's just recording information (data) from the ecu and stores it in a graph to go back and study to know where to make changes on the map. in order to physically tune your car through your lap top, you need a romulator which is basically a chip with wires that plug in to your lap top. and no, you wouldn't be able to get much done without being able to drive the car. as far as making changes, all you need is a chip burner to pull the chip place in the burner, make the changes to the map, the reburn the chip with the new changes and pop it back in the ecu.
