Compression Test

Hey fellas just did a compression test on my car to see how healthy she is before the turbo goes on...This is what I did....pulled out all spark plugs, FI backup fuse, held throttle wide open and cranked 5 times....this sound right?
Results:
#1 178psi
#2 170psi
#3 170psi
#4 175psi
Car is a 1999 Civic DX with 82,000 miles I remember reading that the compression new is around 185 psi is this right? thanks!!!

How do you increase those numbers? New pistons and rings?

Re:Compression Test

I plan to.....It's just the ------- OBD2 thats in the way now. ---- I HATE OBD2!!!I thought it was interesting that the middle cylinders were both at 170psi and the outside cylinders were higher than the middle two. anyone know what the stock compression is? I'm sure it's in the serviceable limit but I just wanted to know. D16Y8 intake first then turbo comes. I junked my plans of going with the Apexi kit because they sold all the kits...it was $1199 shipped!!!! add the skyline frontmount for $600 shipped!! oh well guess It's time to go to the junkyard.....Last time I went I pulled an IHI off a mazda and they wanted $115 for it, is that an ok price cuz I told him ---- that I'll give you $80 tops he said no so i dropped it in the dirt. I figure If I buy one from them for $100 i can always make up the price difference by stealing injectors/resistor boxes.....lol

Well if it is 2 adjoining cyl that are lower it could indicate a leaky head gasket.

thats a good observation....looks like its not leaking too badly though....wish it was then I would have an excuse to rebuild it.damn.

Re:Compression Test

That's fine for compression. Interestingly, though. My Z6, before I ripped it apart last week, posted closer to spec compression that that with 151k on the clock. Now I have to get ready to drive 1k miles in the world of sub-9:1 compression with no turbo during the break in. Ah, the price I pay to go really really fast :-)
