Cold Start-Up Problems, engine flooding out?? what do ya think?
 

Ok so I seem to have a problem with my 95 240sx. The car just does not want to start. And you can just smell the raw fuel.

Let me give a little background info. It’s a turbo ka24de, upgraded injectors and fuel pump, controlled by SAFC-II. My brother was driving it and blew a charge pipe off and limped it home until I could fix it. After that I tried playing with the Decel feature on the SAFC-II and the motor just flooded itself out, so I undid the decal feature and put the settings back to what they were previously. I pulled out all the spark plugs and cleaned them all up and reinstalled them. The car was really hesitating but started up, and I drove it around for about 10-15 minutes then the car seemed to be fine. Drove it to work the next day and everything was great, no problems starting. Now today I pulled the car out of my driveway without problems, washed it, then about 4 hours later, I went to put it in the house and it kind of half ass started, kind of struggling then died, then after that it wouldn’t start at all. I could smell fuel, so I turned the key without running the fuel pump (in between running the starter and “on”) and finally got it to start, and then the car idled pretty well. So I guess what I am wondering is, could I have a bad injector? Or what is causing the car to pour fuel in at idle or prior to turning the key ??

On the surface it seems as if the mix n' match method of fuel control is allowing a C-hair too much fuel during start conditions. If it starts first try your golden, but after 1 or 2 failed starts you've got a pretty good amount of fuel in the chamber and some wet plugs.
As a matter of habit you might try ever so slightly cracking the throttle when starting, to ensure you get it first try.
Im sure that being a MAF car, the 'start' injector pulse width is a set # vs ECT and IAT; and any trims you put in via the fuel controller to control the larger injectors is having 0 effect on crank/start fueling :-\ Just a guess.
Bottom line, start it like it was an over carbed SBC, lol.

I guess i'm just confused as to why all of a sudden its started doing this, because it has been fine for the past month or so

man i thought those days were over... ;D

Mine would stall and sputter when starting sometimes. Really random. Start it like the '79 Nova the track hillbillies all love. ;) ;D "Give 'er some gas!!! Give 'er some gaaassss!!"

my 240 would do that some times. remove fuel pump fuse, turn over for a while, replace fuse, start car.

Should this "reset it" for a little while, or are you recommending this as a new addition to the everyday routine?

i was wondering if anyone knew why all of a sudden it would start doing this, if theres a malfunctioning part that could be to blame?
