Stephen Colbert's presidential campaign appears to be over. The South Carolina Democratic Party decided against allowing the Comedy Central?s faux political pundit to be on the ballot for the state?s presidential primary in late January.

Colbert paid the $2,500 fee to enter the race as a Democrat (he chose not to run on the Republican line because the party required a $35,000 fee), but party officials had the right to reject him if they determined his candidacy wasn't viable. Colbert has said he doesn't want to be president ? he only wanted to run for president in South Carolina, his native state.

Even though Colbert showed up in some presidential polls, it now looks like the gag has run its course.

The saddest part is that he likely would have made a better president than any of the other dem and rep candidates :S

You have no soul. Watch Bill O'Reilly, then watch Colbert. It's the same show, except Colbert knows he's being ridiculous. O'Reilly is serious.

o reilly is not a conservitive.

and i watch o reilly all the time and i've seen colbert many times. o reilly is much funnier than colbert witout even trying. colbert says the same jokes over and over every show... how is that funny?

no one catches colbert. o reilly is one of the most watched shows on tv. o reilly at 4am gets many times the number of viewers as the entire comedy central channel for the day
