Josher, I agree, you can't build a PC that will compare to an xbox 360 for less money.. From what I gather Microsoft doesn't make anything on the core 360 priced at 199, but what they do profit on is the 70 dollars per game you buy and the accessories required to play the games, which makes perfect sense because if you sell a million consoles cheaper than your competition, each person is going to buy at least 1 game. There's no need to explain the return on investment here.

In conclusion, a true DIYer will opt to build a PC for the sole purpose of versatility and affordability.

for the 5 years you have your sweet ps3 you'll be playing the same games, the games won't get any better or else they wouldn't run

pc games are always getting better, thats why the hardware is pushed to the limit. but as i've said before, hardware performance is advancing far faster than software.

Consoles are cheaper in the long run.
An Xbox360 or a PS3 is sub 400.
A console is a smarter solution for gaming especially now that they have the online gaming option.
I remember the Dreamcast on 56k, BRUTAL...

1g ram
Radeon 9800 XT / gf FX 5700 Ultra
All of which ended their gaming usefulness last year, and would have been a 2grand computer to build at the time of being built.

seriously i always use to like PC gaming, but it's an idiotic thing to invest a computer to do. its such a waste of money. you can either pay your grand up front building a mid-tier computer that must be ugpraded every year and a half-two years, or you can pay alot more and *maybe* get three years out of it tops.
3 years ago 6800gt's were out when only 754 chips were available. I know because i have one and my computer still runs every game on the market including ut3, I built it in 2004.

console vs pc debate is lame and useless. play what you want to play, it will all integrate into the same ---- within a few years anyway.

rawr says something worth a damn, must've learned it in his PC class.

as for 3.2g p3... you must've meant p4

3 years ago you could get a 3.2+ghz p4 with hyper threading which is makes the p4s pretty damn good

ram is cheap and still was cheap 3 years ago, and if you had 4 slots you could get 4 gigs for a couple hundred dollars, plus you don't even need top of the line RAM

man you guys are a bunch of computer nerds. who cares about all that ----. i played ps3 and it was sick as all hell and kept me up all night. ive also been to my friends pad that has like 6 comps all networked together and that was also awesome. i still think computers own consoles because you can upgrade them and also use them for work and school tasks.

you're one for playing gamez and bullshit

hah...anyway I like to know about what I'm putting money into so I spend the money as wisely as possible. I can't help knowing about pc hardware in specs, I prefer to build my own than spending money on a storebought piece, and you gotta know what the ---- means.

Anywho, I don't own a 360 or a PS3 (have owned both) and don't own a gaming computer (oc'ed amd 2400, radeon 9600, and 1gig ram niggaaazz) but would drop 300 on a 360 before I put 300+ on a video card alone. I've been using the same computer I built 4 years ago for 800, and the only thing i've upgraded was more ram and a dvd burner. It played all games when it came out (newest ones at low-med settings), and I gamed then, but now is useless for gaming. I use PCs for PC purposes. unfortunately it doesn't play 1080p well and I'd like to encode HD so it's time for a multi-core pc...

rs, you're right that the hardware will be the same in a few years, but the graphics do improve (just not as much as PC in the same time). Just look at games and their sequels (gta, halo). Right now PS3 games look the same as 360 (there are comparison videos online) and take longer to be released. Problem is that 8 cores sounds nice on paper, but developers are having a bit of a time writing code to be threaded between 8 cores. By the end of PS3s cycle I'm sure the games will look better than 360 once developers get more experience with coding for it, but I still don't plan on buying one.

COD4 looked cool from the commercials and reviews, except for the multiplayer, but I don't have anything to play it on or I'd probably get it.

When your buddy is replacing lasers, and screwin around with unreliable gaming systems.. we're doing ---- the right way w/ high performance PCs. My PC probably costs today roughly 450, and is just a P4 3.4ghz, w/ an Asus AGP Geforce 6800GT video card and 2 gigs of memory, and there isn't a game out there that my beast wont play at high settings except for gears of war which I have to put it on low. And I dont have to worry about loadings gaming cds and ----.. I just get the no cd cracks.
