CNC Plasma Table

well me and my brother decided that were going to make a cnc table, i was just wondering if any has any expiriance with them, our fist one is only going to be a 4X4 and 2' vertical movment, but the one in the future will be a 4 axis that can knotch out tubing too make rollcages easier.

this is what it should look like in the end

Re: CNC Plasma Table

there is some hobbiest motion control software available ot there but I've never really looked into it or how that ---- works woth servo motors and what not

kamilk69 11-05-2006 09:25 PM

Re: CNC Plasma Table

yea it works with motors spinning a long threaded rod, and the whole upper esemblt sits on bearing and is moved by the rods.

Re: CNC Plasma Table

how much are they?

Re: CNC Plasma Table

well to buy from a dealer they are around 5 grand, but im hoping to build mine for less than 1500

Re: CNC Plasma Table

I used that plasma cam everyday in HS, those things are the ----! cut out a flange in like 10 seconds.

kamilk69 11-05-2006 11:19 PM

Re: CNC Plasma Table

you think you could hook me up with the software. the plasma can software is awsome, it automatical sorts whateven your cutting for maximum efficiency

ifly87 11-05-2006 11:57 PM

Re: CNC Plasma Table

I never put the software on disk and I've been out of school for 2 years now, sorry.

What kinda work are you gonna start doin? Arent you fairly young to?

Re: CNC Plasma Table

Holy ----, thats like a plasma etch-a-sketch. Writing the software to control that wouldn't be that hard. But probably more of a PITA then just buying/stealing it.

Re: CNC Plasma Table

well yea i am young 19, and my brother is 23, were going to make flanges here and there, but mostly going to make signs or or artistic doors and ----.

Do you think it could cut out 3D ----?

No.

It can't do anything verticaly. It is a plasma cutter.

You would have to have a cutting bit that moved up and down to do that. That would be one hell of a setup.

Re: CNC Plasma Table

for now its just goint to be a plasma/ rotozip for cutting ---- out of wood.

Re: CNC Plasma Table

Might be messy with your plasma, there will be alot of cleanup with your amps and it will have a hard time doing 3/8"

We get our Traction bar parts cut CNC Plasma, and do alot of work for a guy who uses the same shop, His setup is impressive, but we're talking a 90amp plasma and it still doesn't do not as good as job as laser.

kamilk69 11-06-2006 09:12 PM

Re: CNC Plasma Table

well im not expecting it to be perfect like a lase or flow jet, but it should be good for anything up to 1/4", maybe i will get aheavy duty plamsa cuttter.

bumblezc 11-06-2006 09:22 PM

Re: CNC Plasma Table

I just fiqured for flanges, anything worth cutter, needs to be thick, need to be clean, thus might be hard.

kamilk69 11-06-2006 09:27 PM

Re: CNC Plasma Table

i understand it need to be thick, but for me or if im cutting a flange out for a friend it doesnt need to be that clean, i understand if i were to have a full production line i need a better cutter, but for now i should be good,

It can't machine vertically, but it needs to go up and down to trim for different thicknesses of material, and to fit workpieces into the frame, etc.

Kam, you gotten hold of Frederic yet?

kamilk69 11-06-2006 09:46 PM

Re: CNC Plasma Table

yea i did he gave me a great link, thnx for his email. the cnc table i want to make is going to move 2 feet up and down, so i can cut the wave sheet metal.

He's a solid dude, rolled out and bled all over the Pinks car on a lark. Take progress pics and confer with him, he can probably suggest things and tell you what/when/where about deals and suchlike.

Re: CNC Plasma Table

I'll take a copy pls. :)

Re: CNC Plasma Table

what do you mean why you say a copy of plasma cam, the dvd, or the actually software, cuz if its the software, hook it up.

Re: CNC Plasma Table

where can i host it at? let me know that, and i'll for it (gotta find the disc around here somewhere) haha

Re: CNC Plasma Table

I'm down for a copy, and I might be able to host that ---- for you. I don't have a problem re-distributing it either. Have you thought about hosting it on a bit-torrent network? I'm sure quite a few guys would seed the file for a bit (I would).

Let me know.

Also, you know it has to be special for me to come out of the woodwork and post.

Even laser cut is not that much better than plasma. Water jet or CNC machined is the way to go. Both are very clean.
