Cleaning an oil spill: What do you do?

I ran over the tub I use to change my oil and now I have 4qts of oil pooled up at the garage door. Ive used kitty litter before, but it didnt really absorb really well. What else does everyone use?

we have some special absorbant pads at work, but I don't know where you could buy them. use alot of kity litter and floor dry. Or steal some fat lady maxi pads

Pour gas on it and scrub it with a broom.

use gas then kitty litter, walk around on the litter for a few minutes. when gets crunched into more of a powder it absorbs more and pulls the oil from the tiny cracks on the concrete's surface

gas works AMAZING at getting out the stains, but thats only after youve cleaned up most of the oil

For that I usually use saw dust that my grandpa bags up for me

Use paper towels to get most of it up... then Greased Lightning/some kind of degreaser and paper towels... voila. :8
Used kitty litter before, but that takes too long, I like to get that ---- done and cleaned up quick. No brooms, thank you.

Re: Cleaning an oil spill: What do you do?

ive used laundry detergant in the past and it works okay...also used pepsi which kinda helps

ive never heard about using gas before, which is priolly why my driveway is covered in oil stains

Got lost in your sig for a bit. Wheres it from?

I usually use newspaper/paper towels and then brake cleaner, as that tends to be the most abundant degreaser I keep around. Stuff like engine degreaser leaves an oily residue.

Re: Cleaning an oil spill: What do you do?

scoop it up in to a bucket and leave it outside in the rain, after a week or 2 of rain the oil magically dissapears from inside the bucket...wierd ;D

Re: Cleaning an oil spill: What do you do?

saw dust and gasoline FTW

My father an I run a wood pellet mill so we have hundreds of tons of sawdust at a time. When the loader leaks some hydraulic fluid we just use a handful of sawdust.

At home I have an old beach towel that I designated "---- Towel". With it I wipe up anything from oil, to anti-freeze. It's one dirty mother fucker.

Re: Cleaning an oil spill: What do you do?

Soak most of it up with Oil-Dri or kitty litter.

It usually leaves an oily film where the spill was. Get a galloon of prep-sol or laquer thinner and pour some on the oily residue. Pour some kitty litter, or Oil-Dri, on the solvent and scrub with a broom.

Brake cleaner also works wonders also with the above method.
