cleaning the engine bay*~ update with HUGE pics*~*

well today i decided to get creative and paint my engine bay flat black....I will have pics when i learn how to put them up properly. I have also since decided I might spray paint my car flat black and get some nice amber corners...It won't be permanent...jsut until i have the funds to paint it properly ;D

I either want to go some sort of Charcol or the greenish colour of the new Xterras

I should just spend some decent cash and buy a decent one

The car isn't on the road yet....it is jsut about ready for safety...I just have to do control arm bushings and then its ready but i'm holding out for Energy suspension kit

Re:cleaning the engine bay

Proper way to paint an engine bay (even in primer) would be to pull everything out, then ruff up the paint, shoot it with primer.

I usually tend to go with the full frame off restoration approach. Strip it all the way down, sand blast it to bare metal. Seems like I only do it to here and there on a car, one day I'm going to go all out and do a frame off restoration.. once I get a car that's worth it (like a 1974 Porsche 911)

DAMN, clean that ---- up, lol...

I guess it looks better, i like having the engine bay gloss, like the rest of the car, give that thing a wash, soak it down with simple green, scrub some stuff, then spray the suspension and stuff to cover up the old metal, lol.. Mine is one big cover up, but last a long time. I jsut recently, like yesterday, did my new engine bay on my new crx, it was insanly dirty, had a thick layer of like adhesive in the whole bay, i had to scrub it for hours. But it came out pretty good, jsut now the wiring looks like crap, need to move it inside the car, like on my old rex. But ill show you what i did to mine...

I was gonna ask you what you did with all your wiring....and did you relocate your battery??

Re:cleaning the engine bay*~ update with HUGE pics*~*

you call that cleaning...hahaha...your just covering it up. and your valve cover is hideous. should have used carb cleaner to clean the whole bitch down. then degreaser. then wash it down. start your car and spray armoral everywhere and let it run. and the VOILA!! everythings all nice and shiny. even your harness and your hoses. simple as that.

Re:cleaning the engine bay*~ update with HUGE pics*~*

I didn't want the "shinny" look. But yes valve cover is well pathetic. it wasn't very greasy at all i was surprised
I had to clean some parts, i degreased my motor no I just have to get a valve cover gasket and get my valve cover powder coated, not sure what colour yet though. And get an oil cap and rad cap cause the mexican that owned it before me must have thought it looked good?? also have to trace back those red and blue wires from my recent A/C removal.

Yeah, i moved the fuse box inside the car, under the ac stuff, pretty easy, just lots of tugging, and you have to unplug the fuse box, then extend the wires for teh starter and battery, but then i moved my battery into my cargo compartment. Im using a hawker GE13, small ass battery, ahd it for quite som etime onow on two cars, never let me down. In that pic, it was on the lower side passenger side wall, you cant see it, but you can see teh wires going to it down below.

i`ve seen the same mechanic cleaning engine bays at a self car wash so many times, he charge ppl 50 bucks for a "steam clean" :-X
He cover up only fuse box/alternator/battery/dizy with dirty ass supermarket bags and sock the whole ---- with Gunk engine degreaser, let it sit fot like 15 min. and wash the ---- out of it with high pressure hose at the car wash.
i`ve used those degreaser couple times, it worked good but your whole car will smell like diseal for a week or two. :-X :-\

then you can make it shine by sprayin armor-all, or tire gloss all over it. (make sure the engine is very dry, and cold when doing it. (I worked at a detail shop when I was in highschool)

Re:cleaning the engine bay*~ update with HUGE pics*~*

All those plugs are just to seperate the engine harness from teh ecu harness, and they just slide right inside with teh fuse box, tehn you jsut ziptie them up undere the dash, not much room under there though, it was easy for me though, i dont have ac, so i got the peice for teh crx that replaces teh ac part of the system under the dash, and i had that much more room. Its like my car never had ac, just heat.
